Uhh, yeah. I got a question. I just got the Axis and Allies board game and I’m having trouble with a certain thing. When you have battleship support in an amphibious assault the battleship fires on one unit on the isle or all? I dont have a rule book handy, sorry. I’m dumb and I didnt understand that part of the rules. Perhaps someone could clarify this? Thanks. P.S. I do understand that defenders on the isle who are casualties can’t fire back… or something like that (I just got it today, I’m a bit confused still).

The defender chooses its loss(es) but they still may return fire (to attacking troops) before being discarded into their little styrofoam container.
Don’t worry, you’re not dumb. One of my earliest games, my friend and i thought that bb’s could just roam and pick off defending units w/out the amphibeous attack. His wife laughed at us “what? Are the solders going to run down to the beach to wave at the pretty boats?”

sorry thats incorrect, the battleship bombardment is removed and does NOT return fire. the bombardment takes place before the soldiers have arrived thats why you do it first even tho its a roll of 4. just like submarines.

I don’t want to get into a “you’re wrong” “no you’re wrong” thing here,
but the reason the BB bombardment is first is because it only gets one shot. Why would the troops run onto the beach if there are just battleships? To fire at the landing troops. Having said that, i don’t have the rules handy to double check - could a 3rd (maybe 4th and 5th) party confirm whether guest or i are correct?
cystic crypt is correct. the unit hit by the BB CAN return fire before it is discarded, but only at the troops (not at the BB of course)

whether the casualties from an off shore bombardment get to fire back is all in what set of rules you go by. I know for a fact in the original rules they do not get to fire back. Now, in europe they do get to fire back, and I believe in the new edition rules forAA they also get to fire back. Play it how you want.

Directly from 2nd Edition Rules:
If a battleship accompanies a transport in an amphibious assault, the battleship has a special firing privilege called a one-shot support attack–that is, each battleship fires once at any enemy units defending the embattled coastal territory. Any defending enemy unit is hit on a die roll of 4 or less and is considered a casualty–still able to counterattack when the defender fires. The battleships and transports involved in the amphibious assault, however, are not possible targets in the defender’s counterattack–they are immune to defender’s fire.
