The joy of wikipedia! Yes, there are seven sided dice.

@Cmdr:
Player 1 vs Random of 1-7 (8 remove 1.)
Player 2 vs Random of 1-5 (8 remove 3.)
Player 3 vs Random of 1-3 (8 remove 5.)
Player 4 vs Last available playerSo the top 4 could end up playing each other in round 1. But it’s not guaranteed. After the initial pairings, it’s just winner vs winner. Or so I have always done it in the past (by always I mean last year’s league and last year’s tournament…so I guess ALWAYS is a misleading term a bit…)
Best part of online diceys are that you can roll odd sided dice. 1d7 is possible! (I don’t think there exists a 1d7 physical die on the planet however!)
OK - whatever - the top 8 have win% currently ranging from .923 to .786 so the seeding doesn’t really matter.

That does not appear to have the same odds of getting all 7 results possible….of course, 100 sided doesn’t really have odds of rolling anything, it just rolls and rolls and rolls…(looks like a large golf ball…)
Anyway, that’s what I have done in the past for matching. We can do it another way, but that always struck me as the only really fair way to do it since it was as close to total randomness as I could imagine.

Under “seeding” -
“Opponents may be allocated randomly (such as in the FA Cup); however, since the “luck of the draw” may result in the highest-rated competitors being scheduled to face each other early in the competition, seeding is often used to prevent this. Brackets are set up so that the top two seeds could not possibly meet until the final round (should both advance that far), none of the top four can meet prior to the semi-finals, and so on. If no seeding is used, the tournament is called a random knockout tournament.”
Random will suit us since win% does not accurately tell us who the top rated players are anyway.
But I will be using seeding in the other playoff brackets, because I will be using PPG, which is a “rating” based on each player’s relative success. -
I am not saying I am right or you are wrong, it has just been my opinion that the best players will end up as the last two in the playoffs. I understand you can get diced pretty badly, but that could happen in game one against the “worst” player in the playoffs playing the “best” player as well.
We can just do seeding if it’s more convenient and no one has an objection. I was just asked how I was planning to do it this year and mentioned how I’ve done it previously.
-
Seeding by ppg makes imminently more sense.

@Cmdr:
…it has just been my opinion that the best players will end up as the last two in the playoffs.
The problem is that with a random draw, the two best players have a good chance of meeting each other before the final match. This is what seeding attempts to mitigate.

Jenn, I have said this multiple times so that you wouldn’t feel criticized.
I am not saying that I disagree with random.
In fact I quite clearly said random is fine because we’re going by win% anyway, so I don’t think our #1 and #2 are necessarily the best players and #7 and #8 are not necessarily the weakest of the 8.
I was merely trying to tell you about seeding because it seemed you were a bit in the dark about its benefits. I will be seeding the other playoffs. You can do the main playoff like you’ve always done - that will be fine.

Find someone else to play (there is a stickied thread for that) a league game, and
start a thread in the league section using "13L G40 Player1(side) v Player2(side) -
So if I read the 2nd Edition Global rules right they say that Mongolia only becomes Pro-Axis if attacked by the USSR.
So if it’s attacked by the UK it just sits there like a fool?

That’s correct. Same goes the other way around. If Germany/Italy attack Japanese territory bordering Mongolia, nothing happens.

is oct 31 the cut off for 2013 games or did it already go by?

Nov. 2nd is last day for 2013 league normal play. Matching’s for playoffs should be posted soon after.
Nov. 3rd is first day for 2014 league normal play. -
I will kick all your asses soon. :)
-
Cow, you are on the cusp
If any of the top 8 by win % don’t show or don’t choose to participate in the playoffs, you will probably be in the top playoff for league champion (watch out for players who are 4-0 or 5-0 finishing a few games and slipping in)
If not, you will be in the #1 alternate playoff, probably in the same bracket as your friend, Bold
-
Actually, toan6ca is now 6-0. If he finishes 2 more games and doesn’t lose them both, he will be in, and someone else will be out.
Zhukov hasn’t posted anything to A&A.org since March, BUT I saw that he has logged in recently, so don’t count him out.
IF Zhukov is playing in the playoffs (and the other 7 are also) and toan6ca finishes 8 games and goes at least 7-1, Hank or Arathorn might get bumped out?
Couple weeks to go anyway

does anybody play by these rules here on the forum?
