No scramble, thanks
2013 - AAG 40 League

I thought there was talk of making the minimum games higher? I don’t know whatever happened with that discussion, but it happened at one point. I would be in favor of making a higher min game to get in. Although it’s hard to change things in the final stretch like this as it wouldn’t exactly be fair to bmnielsen and toanca. Although it doesn’t seem to be fair to someone like Hank, Arathorn, etc to get bumped by someone who has a 1/3 of the games under their belt and those against weaker opponents.
-
Which is exactly why I was squawking about it early in the year
-
The good news is this will never happen again. Next year will be by the rankings system and higher minimum # of games and possibly a requirement that you’ve played a couple games against tier1/2
-
@Cmdr:
@Cmdr:
3 - You must play at least 4 games against 3 different opponents to be eligible for the playoffs.
Amended: You must play at least 8 games against 6 different opponents to be eligible for the playoffs.3a (Major League) - If 4 or more players end up playing 14 games (in the league) or more then a separate grouping and playoff schedule will be created for these players.
Minor League (8 to 13 games played)
Major League (14+ games played)
Amended: 8 players to replace 4 or more players.Since this was the rule, in 2012, would there be issue in restoring it for 2013? It is in answer to the 20 game +/- 5 that was suggested earlier.
-
That was on Page 23 of the this thread, I can continue combing it to see if I see other official rulings as per playoffs. However, I need to jet now and will need to continue later.
-
There is still the four game minimum. We increased the number of games you can play against the same opponent, but I do not remember a discussion about increasing the minimum number of games to qualify for the playoffs.

Though it was written in 2012, it is actually the rules for this league year. November 2012 started the 2013 league.
So if that was in fact written, then Jenn made an 8 game minimum for playoffs.

is going back to four game minimum another change?
reply 336 on this thread says 8 games, and that is what i thought we were using.
i hope it is 8 or more. 4 just seems too small of a sample size.

It is supposed to be 8. I just think that it slipped our memory.

You wrote that bit about the 8 game minimum and that was after a couple dozen posts from various players about increasing the min game requirement. Suggestions ranged from 10-30 games, but I feel like the 8 game with the different opponent requirement might do for this late date. I would like to see 10-15 game minimum for next year.
-
Yes, it seems that Jenn and I both forgot about the amendment, among all the discussion.
We can blame this on the fact that we can’t edit posts, because if Jenn could, she would have edited the first post with the league rules and there would be no confusion.
Nice work, Seth, I will amend the spreadsheet accordingly, right now.
-
I thought I remembered the minimum games required being increased. I couldn’t remember what the minimum was and I started to doubt my recall when no one else seemed to remember the same thing.
I reviewed all the way up to August and there wasn’t a whimper about the min games after Jenn’s post. Prior to the post there were a couple dozen posts by people talking about it. Seems like everyone was happy with the 8 game min as that subject fell off the map afterwards.

OK, so now currently the top 8 with 8 games or more played have winning percentages of .750 and above.
This is going to be an amazing playoff. We should all learn a lot.
The other 2 playoffs should be very compelling and very fun, too. I think using my rankings and brackets, almost all of the matches should be quite even and very competitive. A month and a week to go…
It is difficult to tell who will actually be in which brackets, because there are players who will qualify for each playoff, who will not be present or will decline.
Players at 9-12 (Cow, Omega if he finishes 1 more, Zigg, Wheatbeer, and Seth) are very much in the running for the main league playoff especially if a top 8 player (Zhukov is very doubtful, I would imagine) does not participate.
Playoffs #2 and #3 will be filled in with those signing up, in order of PPG ranking.
Players participating in the league playoff (top 8 by win %) will not be eligible for the 2nd and 3rd playoffs, but if interested you should sign up anyway, in case you don’t make it in when all the data is tabulated at the end.Sign up sheet is here:

I’m probably out of the running for the main playoffs. I only have 5 2013 games left and I’m probably going to lose at least one if not two of those. Maybe I’ll be good if I only lose 1 game, but it’s looking like 2 losses is a safe bet. And that’s not counting the other 3 games that are up in the air. I think I have one more win for sure. The other 2 are too close to call at the moment.
-
Well the playoff that you will probably land in, will be a great one anyway.
It’s more fun to go a couple rounds in and compete for the crown, than to just get flushed in the first round anyway, right?
-
As long as I wasn’t faced against you, I might get past the first round or two in the main one.
Is this playoff going to be 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc? Same with the other playoffs?
And yea, tourneys and playoffs are always fun. :-D

Definitely. With 1’s and 2’s getting byes if there is a bracket with 6-7 players and not 8.
I’m glad you asked, others were probably wondering. -

It definitely would have been more unfair to the other guys, it would have felt really weird getting in three months after starting to play :) Looking forward to the extra playoff brackets though!
-
Well good luck to those that make it into the playoffs.
-
The way I was going to run the playoff bracket was the way I set up the brackets for tournaments.
Take half the players out and number the other half. Start with player A on one side and roll a die equal to the number of players on the other side (yes you can roll a 1d7 or 1d9 using virtual dice - it violates all the rules of dice to me, but hey, it is what it is) and whoever it landed on is who that player played.
So if we have:
Column A:
Player A
Player B
Player C
Player Dand
Column B:
Player 1
Player 2
Player 3
Player 4I would take player A, roll a 1d4 and the result would be his opponent. Say I rolled a 3, then the bracket would be Player A vs Player 3.
As for minimum amount of games to qualify, I do not think I changed it ever from a minimum of four games. However, if Gamerman and I discuss it, we might kick someone out who only has 4 games, has not played in 7 months and we have someone who has 39 games but lost 1 and is super active in the league. (tried to pick ridiculous numbers - I am not using any specific individuals in this example.)
