2013 - AAG 40 League

  • '20 '16 '15 '14

No worries, but I do think Mac users should also matter to the club.  And, in additon, I am seeing that a "4th"game could be added against an opponent, and if that resulted in a 2-2 tie, then a 5th game could be played (after so many games).  But, what if a series is at 2-0?  Is it again over after 3-0, and if the other player wins to make it 2-1, then a fourth game can be played and so forth?

Just wanted to check, otherwise it only sounds like opponents can add a game only where the series is currently 2-1.  :)

  • Dizz has a good point, I was wondering the same thing.

Is it basically just best of 5?

Jennifer, this ruling is truly a boon for the league.  We have a lot of active players, and I’m pretty sure many of them will be thrilled that they can try and win a best of 5 series against some of their favorite foes.

I played Karl 3 games that have been over for months now, and knowing that we had to wait until the latter part of 2013 to play a league game that counted was a bummer.

This is the best thing to happen to the league all year.

<ahem>My bad.  Only TWO games because I won them both  :-D
But that makes my point even stronger.  It’s a bummer when you play 2 games (especially early in the year) and boom, you’re done and can’t play that person in an official league game for another year.

So thank you thank you - this adds a lot more excitement to an already exciting league year.</ahem>

I totally concur.  Thank you Jennifer for allowing even more games to be played – the energy from all of these games is amazing!

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

Yes, as it stands now, it is the best of 5 games. Â

If it becomes an issue again, in a few months, we may go best of 7 games.  I don’t want to see players just sitting around because they have no one left to play.  The game limit is to encourage everyone to play everyone, not to limit players from playing! Â

And I have nothing against MAC users.  I have something against MACs and the Apple Corporation as a whole, but I won’t let that influence me in preventing MAC users - who through no fault of their own, happen to own a MAC - from fully engaging in any axisandallies.org event or activity! Â

I have many issues with TripleA, most of them stem from version 1_2 through something like 3_5 or something silly like that and I am sure most of them have been corrected.  There were also quite a few issues with TripleA when the module was made for Global 1940 (most of which to do with errors in allowing illegal moves to be performed.)  That too, I hope, has been fixed - although my version still allows the computer to move 50,000 screaming Chinamen into the Himilayas, don’t ask me why!

It’s a personal preference.  If given a choice between Battlemap and TripleA, I’ll opt for battlemap.  Feel free to use whatever platform you want to.  Hell, if you can make Hasbro’s Iron Blitz work for Axis and Allies Global 1940, 2nd Edition more power too you!

You may have to remind me I said that, however.  =^_^=  I am in the process of selling my house and moving to any other state except Illinois, New York, California, Virginia or Washington.  I am leaning towards TN (so tired, I am not even going to TRY and spell it right tonight.)

You didn’t know about the Himalaya rule in Alpha4??

There are still a number of illegal moves allowed by Triple A and unfortunately Veq is often loathe to work on them anymore - probably burned out.

You can land the flying tigers on a territory you just took, you can fly over neutrals you shouldn’t be able to fly over, and a few other things, but it’s a lot better than those older versions you speak of, I think.

I shelved Triple A for a long time because when I gave it a shot with AA50-42, on the very first move - J1 - it wouldn’t let me do the standard attack on the British fleet off India - it wasn’t allowing legal fighter/carrier moves, and that was a deal breaker for me, after putting up with some of the glitches of GTO.

Trust me, as a fellow Triple A skeptic I have been won over and you can play a LOT faster with Triple A than battlemap, and I was very efficient with battlemap and typing.

Download 1.6.4 or whatever the latest number is (something like that) and give it another shot.
ABattlemap actually died around 6 months ago (the remaining faithful, and quite notably myself and Karl, quit it)

It takes a little bit to get used to (like where does it show cash on hand, where does it show my purchases, etc etc), but only a game or 2.

Trust me!  Most of the people who read that phrase that escaped from your typing fingers, will NEVER FORGET!!!

Karl or Bold or somebody will be pestering you about it in a month or two, when they’ve gone 3-2 with an arch-“enemy” and want to play more!!

    Floating with: triplea_1_6_1_4 right now.

And I love battlemap, I have the last game map from my epic battle with NCSCSwitch!  The one where he swore up down and sideways you couldn’t have America do a KJF game and leave England/Russia to fend for themselves against the Germans, in AA: Revised.  Oh man, I really wish I coulda seen his face when the red army marched into Berlin!

How can I relive that, if I don’t have battlemap?

  • Oh my goodness, Jenn, you don’t know what you’re missing yet.

You see, in Triple A you not only have the final map, you have a copy of the map between every single combat, noncombat move, and placement.

It’s like comparing movies to snapshots.

Triple A has a history feature where you can jump to any point in a game with a click, and you only need the last file.

You have the current version. 1_6_1_4

  • '20 '16 '15 '14

Gamer, send her one of your classic games that you’ve played, and allow her to see all of that history feature and how it unfolds.  Then Jennifer will be hooked on TripleA forever.  :)

  • Now that we’ve got the 3 game cap relaxed……

Jennifer please reconsider the 4 game minimum for playoff(s).
There is an 8 game minimum vs. 5 different opponents for 2013 AA50, and at this point only TWO players have completed more than TWO games, and those two players have completed 4 and 5 games, respectively.

Contrasted to G40 where the minimum is 4 games and we have 220 games completed.  We have 36 players who have met the 4 game minimum and we’re only half-way through the year.

You could have a 50 game minimum and we’d have more players eligible for the playoffs than AA50 by the end of the year.

  • TripleA

hmm I should play aa50. Sounds like a playoff I can make!

  • @Cow:

hmm I should play aa50. Sounds like a playoff I can make!

There are no playoffs in AA50, Cow, you are automatically crowned champion if you are in 1st place and met the # of game requirements!

Gamerman, not sure what you are referring too.  I am not in charge of the AA50 league, but the AA40 league rules, per post #1 of this thread read:

The top two players, with the best winning scores (Must complete at least 4 games, agianst at least 3 different opponents) will advance to the playoffs.
If there is a tie between any players then the tie will be broken by:
1 - head to head play
    2 - Total wins

Given that the league has gotten significantly larger than last year, I am willing to take the top 4 players, perhaps the top 8 players - just keep in mind, the more players in the play offs, the longer it will take to crown a champion.  You have to figure 4-6 weeks for a game to finish because there are some players who play that slowly.

With the top 4 players in the playoffs, (verses calling it a championship game), I expect it to take 2 months starting November 3rd to determine a league champion for 2013.

If we go top 8 players, we may cap time to play to 3 weeks maximum and determine points, as described on page 1, to determine a winner to move on to the next bracket.  I don’t know, we are not at that point yet, so let’s focus on making the league as fun as we can. =^_^=

And I’m not sure what you’re confused about - I know you’re not in charge of AA50

Well, you know, talking about going top 4 or top 8 players DOES make the league more fun for some players right now.

Sure, so now the question is, why is TripleA demanding I downgrade my Java 38,000 levels to some 1.5 crud when I have like 7 or something like that?

And, I could do 8, but as I said, I’d probably have to cap games at 3 weeks at least for the first two tiers and let the last game run to a natural end?  Or are there objections?

  • Sounds good, but how do you enforce a 3 week game?
How about just have something like a 24 hour post limit instead of 72 hour?  Just brainstorming

  • '18 '17 '16 '11 Moderator

Using the rules on page 1 for end of season games:

8 - End of the Season games.  Per rule (7b), all games that finish after Nov. 1 will be carried over to the next season.
EXCEPTION:  If at any time during the season both players agreed that their game will end prior to the end of the season (and neither player is willing to concede at the end of the year) then the following system will be used to determine a winner on the last day of the season  (Please note play would need to continue up to that point due to the 72 hr rule):
      - 1)  Each Victory City will count as 3 Points
      - 2)  Each National Objective will count as 3 Points
      - 3)  If technology is in play, each technological break through will count as 1 Point
      - 4)  Total value of all units + total income for each side will be tabulated and for each 100 IPC, 1 Point will be awarded.
      - 5)  The player with the most “points” will be declared the winner.
There will be no negotiation.  Period.

The original idea of this rule was for players who did not want to lose a game that could be played between then for next year, but could not establish who the victor would be for the current year.

So after three weeks, no matter what point the game is at, the points are tallied for the first two games of the 8 player, playoff.  The championship game would run until surrender or declared victory using the rules for declaring a victory.

Admittedly, I know how easy it is for #4 to happen if using Battlemap as it does that throughout game play, not sure about TripleA.
