    Whenever there’s no friendly place to land, you need to take the planes off first, hit the carriers second…

    Shall we call this game a bogey?


  • Just so we’re clear, my order of casualties is usually:

    0. Battleship (first hit)
    1. Subs
    2. Destroyers (unless there’s a lot of enemy subs left, and then save just one to counter their first-strike ability)
    3. Cruisers
    4(a). Tac Bombers (if there’s no friendly territories adjacent to sea zone to land in post-combat)
    4(b). Aircraft Carriers (both hits, if there’s a place for its planes to land afterwards)
    5. Fighters
    6. Battleship (second hit)

    Of course, this is sensitive to context, e.g.: Am I outnumbered on defense to the point where it’s pointless to keep my subs up? Do I need a functional aircraft carrier for a crucial attack next turn, and thus don’t care about saving an extra fighter? Do I want to kill my cruiser rather than my destroyer so that I can ‘spot’ enemy subs in that area in the future? And so on…

    Anyway, were you asking for a chance to re-do the US turn, or did you want to scrap the whole game?

  • Replaced Japanese naval casualties with units of my choosing… would rather save a fighter than a tac bomber, also would rather have one functional aircraft carrier (to house said fighter) than two damaged ones.
