I went when I was really young. I think I mainly visited resorts and amusement parks.

(I am on a sugar high, prepare for harse statements)
Screw Israel. The Israelites lived in Israel 2,000 years ago. From the time they left, to 1948, the Palestinians have called the place home. The Cannonites are a distinct ethnic group which the Palestinians have descended from. These Cannonites have the same amount, if not more, historical backround in Israel.
Russia is more important to us than Israel. a) Russia has 10,000 nukes, Israel has like 20. b) Russia is the world’s biggest oil exporter (just confirmed it in almanac) c) Russia needs help, Israel doesnt and finally d) You don’t see people crashing planes into buildings over Russia.
I don’t know where you got your history from but it’s very altered. The Palestinians can’t be the descendants of the Canaanites. The Canaanites were most likely gone by the assyrian era and if not, they Assyrian policy of displacing and scattering nations wiped them out. By the Roman era, when the Jewish exile occurred after the Bar Kochba Revolt of 135 CE, the Canaanites and the Philistines, both people that the Palestinians claim to have come form, were long gone. Hadrian renamed Judea “Palestine” because he hoped to make the Jews extinct like the Philistines were. Also, the exile did not begin right at 135 CE. In the year 400 the Jerusalem Talmud was finished in Palestine and even beyond that time there were still Jews in the land.
BTW, the Palestinians do not resmeble the Philistines or Canaanites in language, religion, society, culture etc.

There has never been a terrorist attack on the US by Chechnyians, or any attack in result of the US’s support of Russia. 3,000 died on 9/11 from an attack that was caused by our support to Israel.
Supporting the Russians would not cause us to export mass numbers of weapons to them, like we do to Israel. Supporting the Russians would give us something in return, Regional Political Stability, and Economic Gain.
The Canaanites settled in the Syria-Israel area after the Assryians no longer functioned as an organized civilization. So did the Philistines, although I know little about them so I cannot comment further.
-
I agree that the Chechnyians should have the right to independence… though they’ll probably be worse off if they do. It’s up to the people to decide.
-
I agree w/ Moses.
And yanny - to suggest that 9/11 happened merely b/c of US support of Israel is short of anti-semitism. At the very least its an ignorant comment. -
Us support for Israel has shown almost no benefits short of shared intelligence (which the Israelis rarely do). There is no denying it, the only reason terrorists from the Middle East (mostly Saudi Arabia, our ally), target us is because we are on Israel’s side. I couldn’t care less about what religion the Israelis are. Religion is unimportant to me.

russia wants to invade georgia (to stop cheychen rebels) on the basis that if the US can invade Iraq then russia can invade georgia

What are you talking about? If you just follow biblical history you can see that you’re way off. The Canaanites and Philistines continued to exist when King David controlled Israel, that was before the Assyrians. They came several hundred years later anf finished off many civilizations with their policy of displacing people. Read the books of Samuel and Kings.

Myth.

Yanny in his infinite wisdom said:

I only wish I had such ability to read the mind of arabs.

Whenever a new nation has attempted to carve itself from a previously established one there has been war (exception: commonwealth nations). Just look at the American Revolution, Americans see it as justified, or the Civil War, which somehow most think the South was wrong in insigating. Should I be able to declare myself and everything within a 2 mile radius of myself the state of Geofstonia? I am, after all, an oppresed minority (being completely unlike anyone else in my opinion) under the current system of rule. Granted, a rather extreme example, but this situation is only slightly less absurd.

The South started the Civil War now? :)

Hmmm…. not exactly this, but isn’t it
“shalom” in hebrew and “salaam” in arab?
Sound pretty colse to my ears, much more than “pax”, “peace”, “Friede” or “Mir”…
Or do all arabs stem from jews? Or maybe vice versa? -
Arab and Hebrew have similar alphabets.

biblical history
Myth.
Really? Well, this “myth” that you speak of was proven archeologically. The battle between Emperor Senherib opf Assyria against King Hezekiah or Judah was proven to have taken place through the finding of a tablet. I suggest you do some research before you start posting, Yanny. I hate to tell you that there are parts of the bible that are actual historical facts.

Or do all arabs stem from jews? Or maybe vice versa? The subject you’re bringing up is different entirely. That is part of the many things that Islam adopted from Judaism. Christinaity also adopted some things from Judaism. Don’t forget that there were Jews living in the Muslim controlled empire, which could be the source of some of the close words. However, the Philistines and Canaanites were completely different. Their beliefs were very different from that of the modern day Palestinians.
The Ancient Greeks took the Ancient Hebrew alphabet and reversed the letters to make them greek letters and have similar names for their letters. The first letter of the Hebrew alphabet is “aleph” and the first Greek letter is “Alpha”. The second Hebrew letter is “bet” and the Greek is “beta”. The third Hebrew is “Gimel” and the third Greek is “Gamma”. The fourth Hebrew is “Dalet” and the fourth Greek is “delta”. That doesn’t mean that the Greeks were descendants of the Jews, they simply adopted things from the Jews.

I never said nothing in the Bible was true. However, the majority of the Bible is based on what was known at that time, with Christianity thrown in. And well, I just don’t trust people who start up a religion.
In 1948, one of the first acts that Israel put into place was to create a huge team of Archeologists. They were instructed to find remains of the Hebrew civilization. Why? Because this proof would get them political capita.
In 1992(93?), the very first act that the new Palestinian Government put into place was to create an Archeology Department, which would search for Canannite and Philistine evidence. Quite a bit has been found. Problem is, I can’t find the website I found this out on (History.com, damn pages disapear in days).
But this thread is about Chechnya you know? :) Lets create another thread if you choose to respond again.

bossk - i can appreciate what you’re saying, but i don’t think that’s the way things have to be. Why was it so necessary for the north to battle the south? I can appreciate the desire to annihilate slavery, but otherwise it was a “pointless” slaughter. Who knows - maybe we’d have two great nations rather than just the one.
At any rate i can appreciate the desire for other countries to break off (i can’t wait for that to happen in Canada - as you are all aware).
Why is it necessary for nations to have the deaths of many people over a polito-economic separation? Many times the future of the separatist unit appears unstable, but just as my parents had no say in my future (as long as i was not living at home), then why should a country dictate the future to a fledgling province/nation? -
The Chechan Rebels, like many rebel groups, probably could not muster a 66% vote to seperate from Russia. So, they turn to violence. The Russians, they can respond with justified violence as long as we respond to stupid little threats like Iraq. Who are by the way, Russia’s business partner.
-
HEY - Russia has WMD’s too. . . and they’re trading w/ Iraq? They prolly trade w/ N. Korea. How long until Bush decides its necessary to invade Russia? I bet there are some Russians who would like to take shots at America. They also have a history of dictator gov’ts . . . what a bunch of jerks. Let’s start the bombing!!!

Trading is a hard thing to decide a war over.
In 1914, Germany’s biggest trading partner was France (and vise versa).
In 1939, Germany’s biggest trading partner was Russia (and vise versa).
