• These are poor fabrications of FMG superior Italian pieces. Detail is poor as well as flashing from mold.

I wonder if the naval got some changes?

    Still need map pics…

    Italy -1

Thanks for the sneak peek Squirecam!

From the pics, it looks as though Mech Inf are now all represented by trucks, a la Motorized Infantry… I like this change, as the combat stats for both units are the same, and only the rate of movement is different.

Old mech inf units could now be used as a light tank unit, perhaps? CADM: 5/2/2/2, Attack = +1 when boosted by artillery. That would mark the return of the old 3/2 tank, for the old cost, under the very reasonable condition of artillery support. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had that awkward number of 5 IPCs lying around at the end of my purchase units phase, and would have happily bought such a unit over an AAA… No matter how cool the new sculpts look.

  • The issue, again, is time. There’s only 3.5 days to conduct the tournaments and it would be inconsiderate to ask everybody to stay up for 84 hours straight so that a proper tournament could be held. It’s not treated as second class. More teams played in another tournament so, the grand prize went there and this year the grand prize was only so special because it’s roughly 4 weeks before the official release of that game.

Furthermore, the Global games were always right up front, the first games you would see being played next to Greg’s Axis & Allies station. If anything, passers-by would think that Global was the only game being played. 2nd class? No way. There were even folks playing pick up games late at night of Global.

The only way to have more players in the tournament would be to somehow hold qualifiers before the convention. If you haven’t been and haven’t played in this format, it’s hard to feel what the situation is like. As it was, I averaged 4-5 hours of sleep per night because I tried to maximize gaming and wandering time. It’s super fun but I’m exhausted.

    @ghr2:

I would still like to see g40 elevated to equal status as the others instead of relagated to a 2nd class game. If we get more global players to these events, then maybe it will happen.

  • So how many actually played in the tournaments?

  • is that a bren gun carrier I see on the back of box?

  • Customizer

I notice the UK art is the old one and not the 25 pounder, and it looks like USSR got a new art but it’s hard to tell.

  • Russia’s income still says 28 on the box. Is there anything in the rules about giving them the full 37 when playing Europe only?

These are not official numbers, but, from what I recall with the tickets that came in and the brackets that we set up:

A&A “Classic” - single elimination tournament had 8 teams (14-16 players - which, quite honestly, shocked the HECK out of us. I believe there were a couple of ‘teams’ that were solo players)

A&A 1942 - single elimination with a twist had 12 teams (18-20 players) - again, we had several solo players. For this tournament, we had the 6 winners advance and randomly brought back in 2 of the losers of the first round (as Dave had pointed out). This set-up was agreed to by all the players in the tournament. It also proves that Greg can and will compromise needed and offer the chance the for the players themselves to develop a tournament format.

A&A 50 - single elmination after 4 ‘qualifying’ rounds. Top winners (based on VC/IPC) from the qualifying games roll up into the top 8 for single elimination. Here we had around 12-15 unique teams that participated in the qualifying rounds (24-30 total players).

A&A Global - single elimination - GHR - please correct me on this, but I think we had a total of six teams play - there was some sort of bye involved there, but I do not remember exactly how that worked. But 6 teams - with a total of about 12-14 players overall - I am not sure any team played with 3 people, but I also am pretty sure no one played alone)

We actually had a truckload of people also play A&A Minis of all kinds - mostly War at Sea. Turnout there was amazing.

Ya, there was at least 1 3-player team.  And in a 3 round tournament with 1 bye team, i think there should be 7 teams.  Don’t know for sure.

When squirecam eventually posts pictures of the unit identification table in the rulebook (I’m assuming there is one, and I’m assuming we’ll see a photo at some point), this will answer a lot of questions.

  • Anyways, it was still very fun playing and meeting new people, can’t wait for next year!

  • The Italian AP, CA & CV all look pretty freakin’ sweet.

  • It looks like from now on I’m going to have to use two plastic tackle boxes rather than one to organize my collection of OOB Italian sculpts.  Though I’m certainly not complaining.

  • Ok now we need map pics buddy.
