  • Hi Gazza - I appreciate the game and all, but the move you madehe is illegal.  On the same round that USA captures Denmark, UK cannot pass through the Straights at Denmark.


  • while the game might have allowed you to make this move, it is not a Legit move according to the game rules. We agreed to play Alpha 3+ rules at the beginning.  By those rules, you have to hold Denmark for a full turn before you can move through the straights.  I know, learned this early on playing the board game.  If you want to re-do your move legit, we can keep playing.

  • Hello Gazza. It is illegal move. Ask on Forum.  I will find an existing online post and show you.  Meanwhile it is in the rules, if you have the board game, Axis and Allies, Europe, 1940, see rule book page 9, top paragraph: "If your side,)but not necessarily your ower) controlled a canal or narrow straight at the start of your turn, you may move sea units through it (you can’t use it in the same turn that you capture it).  The online game mirrors the board game in that every round you and I are playing is R9, A9, C9, etc - not separate turns, but each power going in order for one turn of allies vs one turn of axis.  I invite you to redo your turn and keep playing legit.


  • BTW: Gazza  – your USA move- I have the right to scramble my fighters @ Germany at your boat. you Brought nobody along with transports and never gave me that option.  I sink your two transports.  But I also stand by my assertion  - you can’t do what you did.  All the same - your boats were dead on arrival.

    Bobgordon, unfortunately, you are 100 % wrong. If US takes Denmark, then UK playing just after CAN go through the detroit.

    I understand that you won’t take if for granted from “random dudes” like me or Wheatbeer on internet. That’s your right, and it’s not a bad thing it itself to stay focus on what you thing is right or wrong.

    But there is a solution: here we have the great chance to have Krieghund, aka Kevin Chapman. Kevin is one of the developper of Global 1940, you can find his name in your rulebook. Appointed by Larry Harris himself (the creator of AA), Kevin IS the rule, he wrote that rulebook you’re referring to.

    So just go in the FAQ section of the G-40 forum, and ask your question and ask for a reply from him, then you’ll have the most legitimate answer that you can ever find on the internet.

  • Hey AxisPlaya - I know and respect your game. If my club is playing wrong, I’ve been robbed in the past. But all that aside, I have a German Fighter, two German Tact, an Italian Tact and an Italian Fighter sitting in Germany. And if you look at C9 of the turn Gazza only brought his transports and Did not give me the opportunity to scramble, so I should be able to edit the board, sink the 2 transports with my air and move forward.

    kay guys, i have opened the 2 last maps, and have reviewed the moves.

    1- As stated previously, UK has the right to move through the detroit. This is a sure thing.
    So, it apears your club has played it wrong from a long time.

    2- AS FOR THE PRESENT GAME AND POSITION: believe it or not, Gazza, but Bobgordon is right on this point : your move is illegal. Not because you came through the detroit, but because you ENDED your combat move with the transport in a sea zone where scrambling could be performed…
    It is not entirely your fault: the Triple A program still got some bugs that need to be fixed.

    Here is the rule for scrambling (we had the case in another game, where Japan was not allowed to scramble planes while an unescorted transport just went in sz6 and took Korea).

    Here is the rule, as it apears in the Global 40 Alpha 3 thread at Larry’s site.

    Scrambling is a special movement that the defender can make at the end of the Combat Move phase. It must be done after all of the attacker�s combat movements have been completed and all attacks have been declared. The attacker may not change any combat movements or attacks after the defender has scrambled.
    A quick reaction team of no more than 3 defending fighters and tactical bombers (strategic bombers can�t scramble) located on each island or coastal territory that has an operative air base can be scrambled to defend against attacks in the sea zones adjacent to those territories. These air units can be scrambled to help friendly units in adjacent sea zones that have come under attack. They can also be scrambled to resist amphibious assaults from adjacent sea zones, whether or not the territory being assaulted is the territory containing the air base. They may defend against the enemy ships conducting the amphibious assault even if friendly ships are not present.

    So, in conclusion, Gazza has (voluntarily or not it doesn’t matter) exploited a bug in the Triple A program and conducted an assaut that should have been made impossible due to scrambling in sz113 by german planes.

    Judging what to do now in your game is tough….
    And here is why:

    If UK is allowed to simply redo his turn, then UK can repair his harbour in London, and move 3 sea zone from sz110, and then go to sz114 and take Germany, with no scrambling allowed, and Germany will be done, it’s game over.
    But it’s every player’s responsability to know the rules, and the choice to attack from sz113 was done (and the harbour not repaired), so this has to count for something…

    Personally, i would ask the UK player to redo his turn as he wishes, but not to take Germany.
    It was a blunder (due to misknowledge of the rules) that make Bobgordon leave Germany so open to a single transport attack, but another blunder made UK attack from sz113 instead of sz114. Since it’s not a Tournament game or a league game, you should do that for the sake of an interesting game.

    One thing is sure: if Germany is plundered by a single transport now, it’s game over. So it’s up to you guys to decide if you want to continue this or not.
