I’ll try Austria-Prussia or The Empire of Seth as it shall be called, with it’s capital Sethopolis. 8-)

Depending on the speed of the game (if you are in a hurry another player might be better), I’d like to try this game and chose Sweden.
-
(in a hurry I mean immediate reply instead of 1 to 2 days)
-
no hurry, but we might try the new 5players version.
Would you like to play Russia? -
Sure!

triplea 1.6.1 comes with the 5 player version
much easier if you guys all use that…
-
Thats the version labelled “unstable” on the webiste. Is it ok to use? And how will it affect running AA games under the old version?
Thx Veqryn!

And in general I avoid anything unstable on the net.

The stable 1.6.1 should have been released yesterday.

We follow a naming convention that means that until my releases get down to the last digit, and I feel they have been tested enough, we called it “unstable”.
1.5.2.1 has many bugs, some of which are fatal errors that completely stop play (forcing you to close the game and reload an older savegame).
1.6.1 has fixed all of those bugs, and as far as I can tell has no bugs. 1.6.1 is at least as “stable” as 1.5.2.1 is.
“unstable” does not mean triplea can affect anything outside of triplea. The worst that can happen is a bug that ruins your current autosave and closes the game, and 1.5.2.1 has 2 or 3 of those already, which are fixed in 1.6.1.
i’m currently recommending all people start new games on 1.6.1
-
Thx Veqryn, appreciated. Only one question that remains unclear to me: Can I import old games into 1.6.1 and continue playing?
As for bugs, the only thing I ever encountered is problems after you look at the game history. Other than that no errors that I remember.
The community owes you big time, thx for that. The only - minor - thing that I have difficulty with are the icons, eg cruiser and battleships, fighter and tacs, tacs and bombers, colours for ANZAC and US. But again, this is no complaint :)
PS: Right now, a friend and me are trying to figure out how to play over the net in real time, is that part working well (ports and stuff…)? I seem to remember there is a link to a “to do” wiki page, right?

Savegames are incompatible due to the new features i’ve added to 1.6.1
Keep 1.5.2.1, and download 1.6.1, and you can run them both at the same time (use 1.5.2.1 for your 1.5.2.1 savegames, and 1.6.1 for your 1.6.1 savegames)The only time savegames are ever compatible, is if it is the 4th digit that is the only digit that changes. (x_x_x_y [if the only change is ‘y’ then savegames will work])
Example: 1.5.2.1 to 1.5.2.2 would be compatible (also 1.5.2 would be compatible because technically it is 1.5.2.0)
while 1.5.2.1 to 1.6 is not compatible, and 1.6 to 1.6.1 is not compatibleYou can have multiple versions of triplea installed at the same time. Even running them at the same time is ok.
About playing “live” games, have you tried clicking the “Play Online” button at the top of the main screen?
There is an online lobby where people play live games against each other, and we have an average of 50-110 people online during peak hours. -
ah I dont think so, but will definitly try that, thx for pointing out!
-
Veqryn, does 1.6.1. need Java while the previous did not need it? I can run the old one, but the new one asks for Java and wont start. The previous one never asked for Java (and I dout I downloaded the Java version)?
Thx

you have 2 choices
download java
or download the one with java
-
I am a pain, I know, but even when I download and install 1.6.1 with Java I am asked to install Java runtime environment 1.5.0.
There is no Java on my computer that the Java website could detect, and the old versio runs perfectly fine. Then again, I am a noob in those things.

Try the No Install version ?
