I have a bit of a problem. I would not have chosen to scramble any fighters in Japan for the attack in sea zone 6 if given that option. Considering I lost a fighter in that battle I’m kinda annoyed, as now it looks like I’m trying to take back a move.
Anybody have any thoughts on how to reconcile this?
-
Yep.
Kurt SHOULD have asked if you wanted to scramble. He didn’t… not cool. Fortunately for him you’re being honest.
Put your Japanese fighter back on the board, negate any rolls by the fighters. Check if the Destroyer hit or didn’t.
Then let the americans decide what they’re doing with their sub/bomber if they lived vs the DST.

Sorry about that.
You can edit back your lost fighter. If your fighters got a hit, then please edit back the U.S. sub too.

I can’t argue with what you’ve written. I was feeling impatient, and just assumed that he’d want to scramble, because that’s what I would have done in his place. I guess it’s silly for me to assume everyone else will always agree with me!
-
I just checked my emails for the MARTI die rolls, and Japan’s rolls in that battle were 5,6,1. Meaning the hit came from one of the fighters. Hank, you’re welcome to edit back your fighter, as long as you edit back the U.S. sub as well.
-
Ok will do. I will edit the fighter and the sub on my Italian turn.

Sounds good. Sorry about this.

WHOAH WHAOH WHOAH
Hang on.
Read the title of the email.
I believe what gets mentioned first, is what’s rolling.
If it reads
“Dice for 1 destroyer 2 fighters”. then yes, a fighter hit.
But if it’s “2 fights 1 destroyer,” then I believe the destroyer hit…
Let me ask Veqryn, this has come up before…
-
I’ve been going over one of my games. Maybe my initial thought is wrong.
Look at this
2 bombers and 3 fighters in 16 Sea Zone, round 1â€
Your dice are: 4,3,4,3,5
That only amounted to 2 hits scored, so the bombers WERE calculated after the fighters, despite the fighters being 2nd in the title.

If there’s any ambiguity, the benefit of the doubt should work against me. (I was the one who messed up.) Besides, the sub isn’t that critical to the U.S.'s Pacific strategy anyway.
But for what it’s worth, the text of the email was as follows:
27679:Japanese roll dice for 1 destroyer and 2 fighters in 6 Sea Zone, round 1
Your dice are: 5,6,1
Have a nice day.–--------------------------------

I have a lot of experience with PBEM games and I routinely read the dice e-mails to see what happened in the battles (rather than simply seeing the result). The dice e-mails list units in alphabetical order in the title, but they list the rolls in order of the attack values of the units involved. The rolls for weaker units are shown first (the destroyer) followed by the stronger units (the fighters).
-
kurt, no problem about the mistake, we all make them.
i would have scrambled the planes if i was controlling japan.
guys it is very simple to find out what hit, go to the saved game file, go to the history and check out the usa’s combat.
it was a fighter that hit so hankthetank will edit back the fighter and the sub.
-

yeah dont dangle our entire ijn in striking distance of the us navy.
you better start rebuilding or usa will own the pacific.
