Please indulge a few “newbie” ramblings
This is my first game of Alpha3, running in tandem with 1 more game of Alpha3
I’ve played half a dozen games of global in its various versions, I don’t think ever more than 5 or 6 rounds and someone always gives up
Global 1940 Alpha3 is a lot of fun. It takes a ton of time to play it well, though. A&A has finally evolved to a game that might actually have too many decisions to make (for the way I play)
From the little bit I’ve read and saw on these forums, people think the sides are pretty even (we had no bid on this game) or it’s advantage Axis……
I’m a newbie but I have a ton of A&A experience esp. Classic, Revised, and AA50. My impression (and I know this is premature but I can’t resist) is that the Allies are still (comparing to OOB) very potent. There are of course many factors, but really just having basically 8 moves (counting USA and UK as 2 because they can be all over the world) to 3 moves is a huge advantage due to gameplay mechanics.
I’m kind of hoping you can surprise me and show me the power of the Axis (I know it’s early) but in my newbie opinion my Allies are strong and late in round 3 I would think is when the Axis should be looking nasty because the USSR and USA are just now entering the war…
I’m sorry - kind of. I can’t give a knowledgeable, experienced opinion until I’ve completely played through like a dozen Alpha3 games. But my early impressions of AA50 (not nearly as complex, I realize) are proving to be correct…
And my early opinion is that the Allies have too many advantages for the Axis to overcome in a 1v1 game (multiplayer is totally different - takes away a lot of the advantages of the Allies)… Looking forward to being proved wrong. :-)
But anyway, it’s a blast to play no matter what side you have, if you have the time.
You finally get to play Italy! Have fun
