  • Bob, I think that’s pretty much game. Italy can can open with a tank and bomber either at Bryansk or Smolensk. After that, Germany can hit Moscow with 9 tanks, 2ftrs, tac, and 3 bombers. We’d have about the same number of pieces, but I’d be rolling 3s & 4s vs 2s and a 3. I might lose a couple of air, but it should be mine. And I’ve got a lot more moving forward for follow-on attacks if needed. Or I can gather everything next to Moscow, move the rest of my air in range, and then hit the turn after.

  • I’ve beaten Chris twice 1v1 with this strat and would’ve beaten him and Jonathan in another game had Jeff’s Japanese put up any semblance of a fight. At the very least, this has Chris convinced that a turn 1 Barbarossa is a good thing for the axis. He’s still not sold on doing a J1, but he’s done waiting for J3-4.

    At the start of the game, the allies outproduce the axis 175-66. Germany and Italy make up some of the difference in France and Africa while Japan can make some money in China. But it still falls way short of what the allies are producing. And IMO, the axis won’t be able to make up the difference until they go after Russia and the money islands. They have the initial advantage in units and they’re more consolidated. While the allies have fewer toys, they’re spread out over larger distances, and diluted by more countries. IMO, the longer the axis wait the better off the allies are. The allies can use that time to consolidate their forces and use their economic advantage to help narrow the axis unit advantage.

    Yeah, an early attack carries some risks and it brings US with their NOs into the war. But Japan killed 109 worth of US and British infantry, planes, and ships on their attacks. Take out the 4 infantry killed that usually die anyway and they’re still killing close to 100 bucks worth of equipment that runs away and consolidates into something that Japan has a tough time killing later on. They also went up 11ipcs to help offset losing the 10 peace NO. To me all that is worth the 20 extra US gets each turn. Germany can also gobble up Russian terr and make Russia cash poor sooner.
