How could you “use to speak” a language fluently? Usually you retain full knowledge of it. :-?
-
“DOMKOPF!!! (fav. german word )”
My favorite German is “Good Morgen!” or “Guten Morgen” as the Germans would put it. :D
“I am trying to learn some Chinese (HARD)”
Learning Chinese is hard, but you should stick with it and sooner or later you will get the hang of it! ^_^
Until then, I will enjoy my American :)

American, I think its called English

It’s a common misconception, but American IS different from English. The spelling and grammer is very different.

But does that qualify to call it a different language? Isn’t it more like a different dialect?
-
I never learn anything in “Americans”, but i understand what you are saying pretty well…
Americans are speaking english, just like Congolese are speaking French (mostly). Same words, same structure, only some minor distinction but not enough to say it’s a new language.

Isn’t it more like a different dialect?
Yeah, I guess you’re right. Sorry for not making that clearer earlier. :)

go canadien! :D
-
I think Canadian is more similar to English than American.

if only that were true.
American “culture” is helping us reduce a beautiful language to rubble. -
heh, English was not as “clean” to start out with. More of a sledgehammer language… :-?
-

e.g. meter(bad way) metre (good way!)

not to mention labour vs. labor or honour vs. honor :-?
-
ug . . . don’t even know where to start.
and i’m not even thinking of the Queen’s English
“i know not which way to begin”Winston Churchill - when addressing one who ended a sentance with a preposition - “that, sir, is the kind of English up with which we shall not put!”
(or something like that :)) -
Ouch… listening to that would be like sandpaper to my ears. :x
