I’m not so sure China would win a future war.
When do you think is “future”? tomorrow? in 10 years?
And of course, do you implicitly mean “USA will win” when you say “China does not win” ?
Just interested…. -
@F_alk:
America is always wrong, everything we do provokes ill feelings? Stop the double standard against America or we will pull men out of Bosnia! (Well, if you don’y exclude American servicement from the International court!)
America is very good at this provoking IMHO. And please, feel free to pull back your troops, and pay your debts to the U.N., and stop blackmailing the U.N./ international community.
I hate having the worlds strongest power break into tears and cry for revenge at any opportunity……
I think that the mere presence of America, it’s power etc. seems to provoke certain communitees.
With regards to “breaking into tears” etc. those “opportunities” far too often represent the loss of American lives, or an indirect cause of loss of American lives. You would prefer what to breaking into tears? The kind of ruthless bombing that Clinton conducted (4 countries in 6 months once)? -
“I hate having the worlds strongest power break into tears and cry for revenge at any opportunity……”
I’m not sure what you mean by this. But breaking out into tears? Sorry, but that is untrue to our character and the American way. I’m just disappointed that Americans did not to something sooner (if you are refering to our current actions).

I can see why Falk is mad at the U.S., if it wasn’t for us the U.S.S.R. would have conquered France and Germany and Italy and Europe would be Communist right now. (except for the U.K.)
What does IMHO mean?

Now America should pay back the billions, did I say we shouldn’t? But how about everyone acts like Finland and pays us back from WW2 all the way to Y2K? Its a two way street. Europeans proke bad feelings more so, but because America is the world’s leading power it is only natural they would be scrutinized more heavily. Does it make it right? No. And still, stop justifying your bigotry.
"I’m not so sure China would win a future war. They do have a larger army, but ours is more advanced. It would not be very hard for America to increase the size of our Army several fold, but it would take years for China to update it’s military.
Besides, we are better positioned. We are close allies with South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. We have 100,000 to 150,000 troops deployed in South East Asia, in addition to naval assests. We are also starting to deploy anti-missile systems. The Chinese equivalent wiould be being allied with Canada and Mexscio, deploying 100,000 troops in Mexico, and porting one of it’s fleets at Vancouver. "
China has nuclear weapons, and they could take ouit Taiwan to spite us, and I doubt America would want to fight a prolonged war. I do hope that future wars with superpowers are convential, because the fear of the destructiveness of nuclear weapons…but all we need is one suicidal nut to change that.

It’s funny how even though, America borrows a lot, we also give a lot away to other countries. Should we call back in all our loans to pay back all the loans we own?
“China has nuclear weapons, and they could take ouit Taiwan to spite us, and I doubt America would want to fight a prolonged war.”
True, but China’s navy isn’t exactly first rate (though steadily improving). Also, China has a lot to lose (not just military) if they do invade Taiwan, like trade embargos and other sanctions by the US
-
trade sanctions on china? We could barely “persuade” to continue them on iraq!
Should everyone pay everyone back? I wonder who america owes the trillions of dollars?

IMHO = in my humble opinion
(funny a non-native english speaker teaches acronyms :) )If it wasn’t for you, then the WWI may have ended diferently, the WWII may have ended diefferently etc. etc. You are just looking at the last part of that chain. And: why would the russian have stopped on mainland europe? i really can’t follow you there.

Hmmm……
i am not sure wether i claimed that the US is “better” in provoking these bad feelings than europe (maybe i did, then i apologize, but it should have become clear in my later postings that i shifted to “very good”, which is an absolute and not a relative value).
Still, you feel attacked by that, and respond by “you are worse” or “we don’t provoke bad feelings”. For the second: how can you tell? Just as i can’t tell wether we (europeans) do that to americans, you can’t tell vice versa. And i didn’t compare that much, claiming “we are better” or “you are worse”. I said not much more than “watch out, this is not a good thing to do”.
Still (and this is the thing that i don’t like), the reaction was not “ok, i will have a look” with maybe the addition “yes/no, you are right/wrong. But look at yourself, you have the same problem”. No, the reaction was" NO NO NO NO NO… YOU ARE WORSE!!! … YOU TREAT ME BAD!!! I AM THE WORLDS GREATEST, TREAT ME WELL"… (well, more or less like that. Or at least, that is the way how i read it, which then is in the responsibility of the writer (it’s not important what you wanted to say, but what the other one understands!!))I hope that clears up my position on that topic.

Russia’s Navy was weak, I’m sure any landing in England would’ve ended is failure. Air power would’ve been less of a problem since the British had already suffered through one Blitz and were prepared to survive another.

"Well it is obvious what you blatantly say and or allude to!
“Still, you feel attacked by that, and respond by “you are worse” or “we don’t provoke bad feelings”.”"
Well we do, but IMO Europeans feel more in the position that it is ok for them to do so. Even how you said if America won a hockey game, them saying the same thing as a Canadian would manage to provoke more bad feelings. We can’t openly flaunt and be proud without criticism (look at your remarks about my nation’s birthday. Would i gvie you the same crap for re-unification day?) I’m not saying Europeans are worse people, but it is my honest opinion they feel obligated to heavily scrutinize America, more so than what is done to themselves/
" For the second: how can you tell? Just as i can’t tell wether we (europeans) do that to americans, you can’t tell vice versa. "
How people act and say things to one another…watching and reading foreign news…it gives you a good picture.
"And i didn’t compare that much, claiming “we are better” or “you are worse”. I said not much more than “watch out, this is not a good thing to do”. "
Why should you care about my nations birthday? Why should you care to write that? No one is better than one another because of geography, but this strays of the point about the double standard against the US.

I hope you have a wonderful reunification day…
“I hope that clears up my position on that topic.”
Yeah, that did a lot…

The hockey game was not brought up by me, and i can’t recall that i referred to it directly.

My remark on your national haoliday was meant as a response to the “G8 - do we care?”-thread: Showing (a) ignorance about the G8 in not knowing what it is and (b) not caring about the world (as G8 is meant to be a summit of the 8 “most powerful” nations) is the kind of american “arrogance” that i dislike and disrespect. Even if you are not interested in what happens outside your town/city, there are a handful of things that IMHO everyone who has the possibility to know should know.
And in your original posting that i first responded to in this thread you had “Europeans proke bad feelings more so”, which for me is a “Europeans are worse”.
" For the second: how can you tell? Just as i can’t tell wether we (europeans) do that to americans, you can’t tell vice versa. "

Which is second hand information, the kind what i call prejudice. You get a picture, but you cannpt know for sure. What you see in the news mainly is the position of the government and not the ppl. It is a picture, a start, but you can’t tell for sure!
If i judged the american ppl only after their government :)…… well, better not :)“Still (and this is the thing that i don’t like), the reaction was not “ok, i will have a look” with maybe the addition “yes/no, you are right/wrong. Ripping quotes out of their context is bad style!

According to leftist Europeans (G8) what are the eight most powerful nations.

i know one that isn’t - Canada.
We have less right to be at the table than Brazil, i’m guessing. Nice to have a powerful ally who wants more N.A. support.
But then again - powerful may be a poor criteria for sitting at the G8. One might look at strength of social programs (education, health care, blah blah blah), economy, military etc. The U.N. has ranked Canada as one of the top nations in the world for the last 5 years, but we have no power outside of our boring (yet effective) diplomatic corps. -
What i don’t like about Canada, and about lots of country in europe; it’s the monarchy and even WORST; people that take it seriously. In Western Europe we still have a lot of monarchy… Danemark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Spain, Monaco, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and the UK. I am even pretty sure i forget 1 or 2…
Note; i know this is off-topic

well, there are a few people who take it seriously, but the monarchy is more of a tradition or figurehead than an entity with any administrative authority. In theory the governor general (the Queen’s representative) may act as a “check” on the gov’t, in reality this is just a figurehead which goes around the country filling in where it is maybe not appropriate for the PM to go. Also the signs of the monarchy (Queen’s head on the money, and the last few vestiges of veneration we have for the monarchy) is more of a symbol of our ties with Britain and the rest of the commonwealth than any actual submission to a monarch. We are as democratic a country as just about any other (when Jean Cretien at long last receives his comeupanance - (sp)).
I agree tho’. I think the monarchy is a terrible institution, as is anything that gives special rights and priveleges and powers simply because of blood, sexual orientation, race, etc. -
So Canada isn’t part of the G8? I find that pretty odd considering I take some likin’ toward that country even though I’m nationalist sectionalist. Anyways, California should have its own "representation"at G8. I hate those sophist diplomats in Washington trying to tell us what to do.
-
YOu haven’t answered my question as to what nations are a part of it.
Liechtenstein like has a duke, right?

sorry, Canada IS a part of the G8 (we’ve hosted it a few times.
As is the US, Russia, Japan, Germany, Britain, France and Italy.sorry, i don’t know the part about Lichtenstein.
