@VictoryFirst Got it thanks a lot!!!
BIG SHOUTOUT TO BUNG AND VEQRYN
-
Alpha 3.9 is up on triple a in the latest version just released yesterday. The map is called global 1940 alpha 3 (though it is 3.9).
-All the major bugs have been worked out.
-You rarely have to use the edit function.
-You get a pop up whenever political situations change (you can also always check it anytime).
-All the rules are set and done for you.Highly recommend playing on Triple A if you own the board game and have gone through all the versions. You should print out all the updated rules and look at it while you play on your first couple of gos. It is done. All the hard work by the triple a developers is finished as far as global goes.
Thank you Bung and Veqryn. I would not be playing a live in real life game of 3.9 till summer, but now I can play a live game during spring break with my group. We will bust out the board and clank those dice. Now that we don’t have to shift through rules every 15 minutes or scour the forum for them.
Hopefully after a year passes some form of bid system will come about. Every board favors one side over the other slightly and over time people make a bid system to determine who plays which side. AA50 I remember started out to be 0-6 bid for allies then later evolved to around 9 on average (though low luck games are generally played at 11-13 for AA50).
~~
Global is pretty damn balanced still not sure which side should get a bid. The germany sea lion bluff is super good at deterring uk from sinking italy and forcing an infantry buy (basically buy a carrier and save 14 or buy 2 transports). If uk balls to the wall blasts italy out of the water, germany can take over UK… 85%-90% area (though I have seen that fail).
Problem with sea lion is that it is easy to setup japan to war on round 2 and if USA bought atlantic then japan risks germany losing his transports. Sea lion win or lose ends up with russians making bank and if the russians can merge into a big stack, it can be painful.
Generally speaking losing UK is not a huge deal, italy sunk, uk out till usa liberates.
Japan does roll hard in asia though, especially with good planning. USA is much more complicated to play because it has two theaters and one income.
I am starting to give the edge to axis. Even though the total unit value of allies is higher and allies income is higher, axis have the position to push through. Allies are also more complicated to play.
I like the transport buys for japan round 1 over minor ICs.
I like to buy 5 inf 1 art 3 tank with russia if germany does any naval buys. tanks get in position and start swinging away in time. good fun. even if it was just a bluff, having a few tanks never hurt.

WTF
OMG
BEST NEWS EVA!

Haven’t tried TripleA in a long time. I’ll have to give it a shot now that the Alpha 3 is Final. Thanks. :-)

Is there a NEW Version of Triple A? or is it still 1.5?
-
1.5.2 is the latest
it is needed for latest global -
There are some minor stuff left to do, most of it is tech related (no tech yet for triple a). The rest just requires people to be honest / not forget what they can’t do / works most of the time / rarely comes up like uk pacific taking japan.
I just realized tactical bombers aren’t supposed to strategic raid industrials anymore.
- Do not allow blitzing or movement through Friendly Neutrals.
- Air units may not land in or move through Friendly Neutrals, including the same turn they are captured.
- Friendly Neutrals can not be ‘captured’ with an AA Gun, only by land units with an attack power.
- Kamikaze attacks will prevent bombardment. So will Scrambling attacks.
- Captured naval and air bases can not be used until next turn. In other words, you can’t somehow use the naval base for bonus movement during noncombat.
- New Blockade Zone rules.
- If UK Pacific captures Japan, the money goes to UK Pacific, even if UK Pacific’s capital is occupied.
- Technology does not yet work.
- UK Pacific may for part or all of any Tech Tokens purchased by the British.
- Tactical Bombers may only target Airfields and Harbours for strategic bombing, and may not target any factories.
- Do not allow USA movement to end in Sea Zones 17, 22, 32, 33, 34, and 37.
-
Oh well then I’ll wait til all the bugs are out of it then.
Don’t forget the new convoy and SBR rules along with the changed NOs and the new Soviet-Jap (Mongolian) pact
-
I believe the new convoy rules are the only thing not done
everything else is users enforcing the rules when the game doesn’t
-
Hurray! :-D
-
basically people have to play honest like in real life. But if people don’t know then people don’t know and the game gets played out differently, like in real life.
So it is not a big deal.

I’m going to make a post at some point after I feel it is “stable” (bug free) enough for the people here at A&A.org to use it.
FYI: there are really 2 things going on,
1. There is the Map file (contains coding [XML] on how the map should work [done by me, veqryn], as well as the art, design, placements, etc for the map [done by bung]).
2. There is the TripleA engine itself, which has to be coded [Java] on how to handle all the xml things in the map file. The engine code is the reason it has taken so long to get Global finished. Almost all of the work for the engine was done by me, but I also had a few other helpers: frigoref, edwin, and qwertgold.I believe sometime in the next ~2 weeks I will release a “stable” version, of both the TripleA engine and also the Global map.
You are welcome to come try the “unstable” version. Unstable just means there is the possibility that something will not work the way you expect it to. It does not mean it will cause any problems for your computer. Unstable is more like “beta”.

We definitely need a game after our Great War game!
-
So, I downloaded the 1.5.2.1 and the winzip file for Global. How do I attached the global file to the triplea program?

@Ol’:
So, I downloaded the 1.5.2.1 and the winzip file for Global. How do I attached the global file to the triplea program?
Put the zip-file to the following directory:
Windows 7: C:\Users\YourName\triplea\maps
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\triplea\mapsYou have to run triplea once before so that these directories are created.
But it will be a lot easier if you use the built-in downloader:
Start triplea, hit “Downloads Maps”, enter the following link
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/tripleamaps/triplea_maps.xml
click “List Games”. Then choose the maps you want and click “Install”. That’s it.
You may want to read this thread (especially the first post) for further information

Ok, I have played Global on 1.5.2.1 against the AI at work (ssssh…don’t tell them) and it is great to have. I am currently playing AA50 with 1.5.2.1 as well. You guys have done an awesome job with the program! Now if I could only figure out how to get past the firewall at work…

It has been released!
:-)Awesome!!! I’ll try it out in a few days here- a little busy. Its been a long time since I played TripleA but if all is well with Global then I think I will soon be retiring from the slow PBF- although it was good for a long time. Time to upgrade to TripleA!!! Sweetness…btw…nice avatar.
