Don't call me a noob but.. what's a sticky?

I’m kinda familiar with forum words and terms but I don’t know what this one means.

Sticky is what we do to a post topic to keep it at the top of all the threads in a topic area… whether it has been posted in recently or not.

As posts age, and have no activity, they move further and further down the list.

But with a sticky, a topic can have no new posts for months or years, yet still remain on top of the threads list, above even a topic that had a new post made 1 second ago.
