bloody battle all around
i believe the transport is sunk even though you have a sub remaining, since you have no surface ships to defend against my air. my sub will press the attack in round 2. will your sub submerge or fight?
-
i will lose 3 ftr in round 1.
-
here’s an interesting question. COULD I retreat after round 1 to z13 with the sub. IF i did, would the transport survive? or is it dead in round 1 because all surface defense was eliminated? things that make you go hmmmm
-
oops what am i thinking, i lose the sub and 2 fighters! and then the transport is sunk and the battle is over, you have one sub remaining. guess it was too early for me to fight that battle!

If you took 3 Ftr as casualties you could retreat and the Trn would survive by my interpretation of the rules. If you take 1 Sub 2 Ftr as casualties then I think the battle is over and you cannot retreat and leave the Trn.
-
correct. check out the errata thread for discussion there. i always thought the transports technically “took hits” so if there were, say, 10 of them and you attacked with 9 units, you could kill 9 and then retreat if you wished. not so.

transports do take hits but only in occasions when a defender is around to shoot back, if there is not anything around that has combat value then you’re right the battle is over and retreating is not an option.
-
what i mean is there is no concept of transports taking X number of hits. if a single transport is hit, all transports are hit. in addition, if there were 2 destroyers and 5 transports that were attacked with 3 bombers and the bombers hit exactly twice in the first round, the destroyers AND the transports are ALL sunk. no ifs ands or buts about it. according to krieg.

ie, i cannot retreat after one round getting exactly the number of hits that sink the surface ships. not that you would ever want to, but it cannot be done.
