Normandy falls cleanly.

Sorry, just realized I’ve been under-rolling Germany by 2 2’s. Without redoing the whole thing:
Rolls: 2@2; Total Hits: 22@2: (2, 1)

Well, lucky lucky. Paris falls, Germany has 4 tanks, 2 art., and 1 tac. bomber.
SZ112
Sub sneak shot
Rolls: 1@2; Total Hits: 11@2: (2)

Cool, we’ll leave it at that. The BB retreats.
So, the map is attached: Your scramble/interceptor decisions are necessary to continue.
Thanks again, hope to have a good game.
-
This is a really interesting opener. If you want I’ll pick up the Allies.
(in that case no scramble)
Also, the cruiser that wasn’t sunk by the surprise strike gets to fire back in SZ112.
-
(no intercept either)
-
Thanks for playing!
My understanding of it always was a sneak attack is just that; with no dd present, the sub can submerge after a first shot and be done with it. I will post something on the open forum to get this clarified; it shouldn’t have any affect on R1.
Anywhoo, saving those fighters, eh?
SZ110
Rolls: 2@2 3@3 3@4; Total Hits: 42@2: (4, 1)3@3: (6, 5, 1)3@4: (2, 6, 1)
Rolls: 1@3 1@4; Total Hits: 11@3: (4)1@4: (2)

One U-Boat is lost.
With no interceptors, the two bombers go after the IC and the tac. goes after the London ab.
LONDON IC AA’S
Rolls: 2@1; Total Hits: 02@1: (3, 5)
LONDON AB AA
Rolls: 1@1; Total Hits: 01@1: (5)

LONDON IC DAMAGE
Rolls: 2@6; Total Hits: 22@6: (2, 2)+ 4
LONDON AB DAMAGE
Rolls: 1@6; Total Hits: 11@6: (6)

Combat order goes
1. place units on battlestrip (outside declaring specific combats, this doesn’t really occur in online play)
2. sub sneaks or sub submerges (if no destroyer present)
3. attackers fire
4. defenders fire (attacker casualties taken immediately)
5. remove defender causalities
6. press attack or retreat
7. conclude combat(pgs 18-19 if you have a manual handy)
To conclude SZ112:
Your battleship must fire.
My surviving cruiser must fire.
If my last cruiser survives this first round, at that point you have the option of retreating. You cannot both sneak attack and submerge in a single round of combat.
-
To be more succinct, unless submarines clear a sea zone of hostile units in the first round of sneak attacks, there is no way to skip steps 3-5.
-
So the IC suffers 10, and the ab suffers 6.
NC
-Normandy f. to SI
-1 Norwegien activates Finland; 1 Romanian activates Bulgaria
-London air lands in H/B
-2 Norwegiens to WG via transport

I will look at USSR now, but I might have to run for dinner before I can post. If I can’t get to it tonight, I will definitely post it tomorrow morning.
(I don’t mind if you post to double check btw … I’m pretty sure, but I don’t want you to just to take my word for it if you’ve played with other people using subs that way)
-
Okay:
-sz112 should have a German sub and a damaged German BB. Please adjust that and my apologies for getting it wrong.
-also, I’m going to pull a Pearl Harbor as Japan; every reaching unit save for the 2 bombers will attack Hawaii. If you can give me scramble orders after your R1 that would save time, however if you wish to wait and see my entire plan that is certainly fair.
R1 is up!
-
I did put that post up anyway, just because I have played all this time with the notion that subs get that shot and immediate submerge… unless the responses overwhelmingly support my understanding, I’m happy to leave it as is and get on with the game.

Jerc don’t forget the french navy is convoying South France! I like this opening.
