• I was just wondering if asnyone else thinks that 3 dice for heavy bombers is stupid. I think 2 dice is enough and it still can whoop up on someone. Even a couple of regular bombers can so I was just thinking about lowering it to two rolls.
Also didn’t fighters attack bombers that were hitting industrial bombings? What if fighters (that hadn’t attacked during turn because air crews would be tired) could get a shot at 2 or less (if jet power 3 or less). Like AA guns, they would shoot once then leave.
    Please give umput.

  • Thats basically why if you get heavy bombers, time to kick some ass! Its the point of heavy bombers, and is actually quite realistic, as around 1944 or so, bombers became much more effective, giving them basically 3x their former strength.

    Waffen-

You just discribed exactly the new house rule my friends and I came up with. We left heavy bombers at 3 dice but the fighter defence is right on.

  • usually i don’t go for developing weapons at all because unless u spend like 20 ipcs u don’t have a very good chance and its just better not to waste the money and use each dice roll on a tank….

  • i think i read or watched something that claimed that strategic bombing was never really effective in world war II, and i think i agree with that. It didnt destroy much of the german industrial capacity, it just destroyed lots of cities and a few tanks. Not really that effective. I think 1 dice is quite realistic, 3 dice is just too many.

  • bombing was VERY effective. Look at what the Germans did to the British fighter bases in the first few years of the war. “Terror Bombing” as Hitler called it, started by accident when a Germany bomber got off course and hit a farm outside of london. Thats what started the British and Germans bombing Berlin/London. If the Germans had not done this, the remaining fighter bases in England would of been effaced, and the Germans would of had Air Dominence.

  • but heavy bombers can destroy like 30% of Germany’s production, i cant imagine they hit that many. Maybe it would be a good idea to change it to 2 dices for a strategic bombing raid and give the bombers some additional bonus in normal fights.

For example first roll a dice for every bomber you attack with, the defender has to remove tanks or planes when dice is succesfol. I think that would be pretty cool. That would reflect the bombing of airfields and tanks (which the allies did on a large scale during D-day.).

  • Could work, but you’d need to allow fighters to attack the bombers in regular A&A.

  • Good fighter rules… But Heavy Bombers was meant to be nukes, so I like it the way it is…

  • When I play with friends, we simply just disable the weapon developement option. When someone gets 5 or 6, the game is ruined.

  • i think i read in the interview with the creator of A&A that heavy bombers were ment to be nukes. But i dont think i really want nukes in the game.

Anyway, i agree with you guys that some of the technologies ruin the game, maybe you can come up with a new weapon to replace it?

  • Two Q’s…

    1. For a strategic bombing raid with a heavy bomber, does that bomber get to roll 3 dice for the raid?

    2. Again, for strategic bombing raids, does an AA gun get to fire once per bomber or once per raid?

  • I think anyone who pays 5ipc’s on inventions deserves to get some nice effect if it eventually works. It is money ill-spent in my eyes anyway but if you get lucky you invent a nuke, but I rather have a tank then a one in thirtysix chance of having heavy bombers.

  • Come on, when we take a normal chance you could trade six tanks or something else worth 30ipc’s for an invention. Honestly SIX tanks, I would rather have six tanks then one of those inventions, the only ones worth it are 5+6, the rest is just gravy.

Apres nous le deluge. Louis XVI.

  • no no, if we try to go for 1 technology then its most likely we will need 3 or 4 dice on average to get a technology. This means only 3 or 4 tanks. Id rather get a technology instead of 4 tanks.

  • If you do the math, it takes 36 tries to promise heavy bombers on odds. So thats 36 * 5 = 180 IPCs for heavy bombers, and thats on odds. Yes, if you get lucky you can win the game. But, if your on odds its a lot of money ill spent. 180$- 60 infantry, 36 tanks, 15 fighers, 12 Bombers, 7.5 Battleships, 22.5 Subs/Transports, and 10 Aircraft Carriers. What would you rather have?

  • no yanny, your making the same mistake. You will get heavy bombers in 1 of 36 turns, this doesnt have to be the last of these turns, but it will on average be about 18 turns. This means spending or wasting 90 IPC’s (3 turns income) to most likely get heavy bombers. Offcourse that will probably be not worth the cost, but if you realise that there is also a big chance of getting an other technology when trying for heavy bombers.

But anyway i never do weapons development as it involves too many risk.

  • No, what I ment by that is too be guaranteed heavy bombers you’d need 36 tries.

  • you might be very unlucky and not throw a 6 for more then 1000 turns

  • Thats exactly what I meant Yanny. In my eyes inventions are a waste of money. Maybe thats why the creators of the game didn’t use inventions in A&A Europe and Pacific
