I figure there aren’t too many things classified as Islands that would have air bases so far away as to make them invulnerable to shore bombardment. The air fields on Guadalcanal and Wake island certainly got hit and both Hickam and Pearl could be hit from the sea. By definition, this ability assumes no defenders. Even a single scrambling fighter or defending destroyer nullifies the ability.

Here are overlays to divide Japan into 3 territories.
JAPAN advantage: can create more air bases to scramble fighters in attacks from SZ6
ALLIES advantage: once in SZ6, can land in any/all of the 3.This helps recreate a prolonged land engagement on the island nation for control - since any other attack is a winner take all situation.

Great-looking overlays, and a good reflection of how WWII might have ended if the A-bomb hadn’t been used. The Americans were planning to invade Japan in two stages, with Kyushu as the first stage (Operation Olympic) and Honshu as the second stage (Operation Coronet), and the Soviets had plans to invade Hokkaido. Very nice work.
