Ok, now the big dog battle. I plan on killing everything, so unless the dice roll horrible for me (in which case I’ll ask for OOL), I’ll use my judgement on which units you want to lose.

I put a marker there, that’s why the fleet is sitting on sz52…

I lose 3 fighters and 1 tac. You lose 3 inf.
Battle for Nte, round 2

Ow….just realized you were sending only air units…sorry, tired here. Disregard my last silly post…
-
Yea, I knew. Like I said, I need to get this game done one way or another. Once the baby comes, I know realistically that I won’t be coming back to this game. I planned on an average of five plane losses for the whole battle based on my expected averages of hits in the first round. With bringing 8 fighters and 6 tacticals, I had 48 pips for an average of 8 hits on round 1. Rollling only 3 hits on the first round was way, way below average for me. You had 21 pips for 3.5 hits on average. So, 5 hits by you is not super crazy for round 1, but sucks for me when I was so far below average. Oh well. You are rolling phenomenally. Good for you (but horrible for me ) after the Russian debacles you’ve been having. As for my lost planes: I have 3 figs in Mal, a tac in Sze, 2 SS by India, a SS in z37, and 2 DD in z20 that could all make it to z42 to reinforce my fleet after the battle. I had originally planned on bringing enough back for defense of my fleet, but now, I don’t know if that will be enough or not.

Well, that would be one way to reduce my plane losses for this battle….not roll your dice.
Ok, here’s the defensive roll:

Lose another tac
totals:
Me: lose 5 fig, 5 tac
You: 5 inf, 2 mech, 2 art, tankNow, can I defend z42??? I’ll need a bit to calculate this.
-
Well, I truly don’t know how to describe that battle. I brought 14 units vs 10 units. 48 pips vs. 21 pips. We both end up with 10 hits total. Now I can’t defend z42 against the 1-2 punch you have with the US and Anzac even if I max defend. So, because I have to retreat from z42 my total loss will be all 14 planes that I began with and 2 CV because I have to leave them behind. Sigh…. I still contend that it was a good battle to do based on expected hits. If not for the fact that my fleet has to retreat, it would have made the US largely impotent in the Pacific without the ability to take islands or territories. But man, that result… Sigh. Now, you may even be able to hook up with the UK fleet currently off Iraq and Central Persia. I may not be “dead” in the Pacific, but now I fell like the impotent one.

Yeah, the loss is huge for Japan there. Got very very lucky here.
Still, your position was so dominant, that i don’t think it was a necessity. You had more too lose than to win with that move.
But it’s fun to have some action like this. Have to admit : it wasn’t a trap to leave Anzac fgt behind, i just didn’t think you would go for this attack. Had you wiped the zone with only 3-5 planes lost, that would have been a great success.
Too bad that the dices got so horrible for you.
Now, that gives me a hell of a break in the pacific.

Well, this game has only days left….so I am pushing my luck where I see an advantage. I saw one there but it didn’t pan out.
Not that this matters for diddly squat, but sometimes I will reroll truly horrible dice to try to console myself that my move was indeed a good idea…

The move was not necessary, but it was today when I realized that a successful strafing attack with the Japanese would really, really give me a chance to win in the Pacific. Ok, enough whining by me. I just need time to cool off after this. It is your turn. Let’s see what else this game has in store. Maybe we can actually finish this game properly before I must concede do to life’s intrusion on a game. :-D

I guess the one positive that can come from this battle for me is that in any future games you better think long and hard about putting stuff out there that I may attack. I’m a crazy enough player that I just could do that.
