Improve A&A 1941?

Hi!
First, sorry for my poor English! I’m a French Boardgames who can play Troyes, Caylus, Pandemic Legacy, Fief, Star Wars Rebellion, Forbidden Stars, Mare Nostrum or Conflict Of Heroes.

I would want to buy a strategic game about WwII and I think Axis & Allies is a good idea. But… What? Why so many versions?

I’m looking for a game which lasts 3 hours, so I think 1941 is the best option… But artillery or anti aircraft look so good!

So… Should I buy 1941 and tweak the rules to add artillery and AA or should I buy 1942 and tweak the rules to have a shorter game or just buy a 1941 board and play the 2 versions if I want?
