Thin Red Line is one of the worst movies ever made. You talk about Story, there wasn’t one, nothing happens, the characters do not develop, the mood is depressing and the majority of the scenes are just a dude swimming with natives, over, and over, and over again.
You talk about depth and message, What message? and what depth? I fell asleep IN THE THEATRE! A movie is by design, made to entertain, and a good movie tells a great story through entertainment. TRL failed in every aspect. Absolutely Terrible.
Some directors you either love or hate. Terence Malick is one of them (I love all of this movies but I understand why people hate them). Thin Red Line shouldn’t even be included on the list above because to me it is neither a war or a WW2 movie - it is one of his movies, that happens to take place (most of it) on Guadalcanal during WW2.
If you are looking for a clear story, popcorn, mass entertainment, and the guy getting the girl at the end, stick to Pearl Harbour. If you are looking for something different than all of those while watching a movie, watch Malick.Btw, and I’d say the same about Inglorious Bastards - one of the best Tarantino movies I’ve ever seen!

I disagree with you Hobbes, I think “the thin red line” is a war movie, but I do understand your argument. I think that if it were not for Nick Nolte’s performance or the visual effects of soldiers getting blown aside by mortar fire, it would have won this worst film poll hands down.

Well, to solve that argument, it is a war movie, I merely emphasizing the director.
And regarding the worst movie argument, it was nominated for 7 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score and Best Sound Mixing.
Regardless what you think of the Oscars I don’t think that any of the other movies above was nominated for any big Oscar awards, with the exception of Pearl Harbour for special/technical effects.
With Inglourious Basterds it’s essentially the same: was nominated for 8 categories, including Director, Picture and Original Screenplay, and won Best Supporting Actor.You may not like either movie but it would seem that most people who saw them think otherwise.

The oscars also favored “lost in translation” (lost to LOTR) and “the hurt locker”. Both of which were horrible films, and made by the same director. The thin red line was bold, artsy, daring and had a steller cast, none of which translates into a great move although the academy likes to think so, and favors many of these “out of the box” titles (others include Chariots of fire, Amadeus, The English patient, and American beauty).

I vote Pearl Harbor as the worst ww2 movie ever.
Although it’s an anime, but it’s based on a true story, and it’s very, very deep, I advice anyone here to watch “Hotaru no Haka” - Firefly Graveyard. That’s probably one of the most touching ww2 movies.

I have a bit of a problem with this list, that being that in my opinion Inglorious Bastards is not a WW2 movie. Ingloirous bastards is a Quentin Tarantino movie and there fore should not be judge by the same standards as other actual WW2 movies.
That being said, if we are going to include it on this list then it is without question the worst WW2 movie of all time. When you realize that this movie also ties in with all his other movies, and is ment to be in continuity with all his other movies, such a pulp fiction and kill bill, then you cant really take it seriously, and it can not hold a flame to WW2 movies even as bad a “The Thin Red Line”. Also consider that Tarantino orignally planned to cast himself in the role of Aldo Rain (Brad Pitt) and this movie sinks from worst, to absolutely abominable.

I took inglorious basterds for what it was and enjoyed it. I had no expectations of what it was ment to be, and that served me well when watching it, but it’s not a war movie any more than “Top secret” with Val Kilmer was a war movie.

When they cut into his forehead at the end, and the credits started rolling, I began clapping loudly and everyone stared. Let’s not forget that IB is a least watchable, unlike some others in the poll.

Gargantua, Are you ready to see the remake of red dawn? They finished post production in 2010! the studio sat on the release with the hope that releasing THOR first would be a hit and create buzz about the guy who plays Thor. (He’s playing Jed E.) Then the studio had a P.R. problem with the story line of the bad guys being chinese this time so they’ve spent the end of last year doing a C.G.I. overhaul turning the chinese uniforms into North Korean. The studio feels this will give it larger appeal globally. Even if it’s bad I still have to see it.
