Regarding the Chinese territories controlled by Japan at the start of the game, I place Japan control markers on those territories when I set the board up. It’s a big help for me when one of those is liberated and the Japan marker removed as, later on, I quickly know who controls it at a glance. If Japan re-captures it, I place the marker back.
Aircraft carrier question
-
Here’s the situation. I have 2 loaded AC’s at seas port. The planes are going into a land battle 3 spaces away and must land in water next to land. The AC’s will stay until non combat move for declared landing spot. If 2 planes get shot down, Can one of the carriers move to a different sea zone or must it go there even though no planes are there to pick up?

You only need to move the carriers there if you have to land planes on them.
In order to move the planes into combat you first must show your opponent that you can make a legal landing spot with your carriers by moving them into position on non-combat movement phase. If the planes survive combat you must move the carrier(s) to land the plane(s). If the planes don’t survive you can choose to do whatever you want with the carrier(s).
