First, Annual Global 1940 Tournament - Sign-ups open!
-
This will be my 1st AA tournament. I got a question regarding bids.
Is there only 1 round of bidding or do we get to bid until we reach a point when a player doesn’t want to bid anymore ?
Example:
I bid for Axis 9 IPC, my oponent bid 7. Is he going to play Axis with 7 IPC to spend or if i’m not happy with this result, can i now bid let’s say 3 ? -
Each tournament has its way… but Jennifer stated it in first post of this thread :
Bidding will be done as a silent Auction. Both players will Private Message Commander Jennifer with the bid locations they would like and I will notify them who won and what the winning bid was.
* Please send the information as thus:
** Player A vs. Player B Global 1940 Tournament - Header
** I bid XX IPC, I want X-Units here and Y-ships there
Brackets will be assigned by random die roll. As this is the first year of the Global 1940 tournament, there are no last years winners to pair up.
Edit: In any game in which one of you is facing me, bids will be sent to Darth Maximus instead of myself. -
Had already read that.
It’s probably very well stated in Jennifer’s post, but since english is not my 1st language, i just want to be 100 % sure.
So, is there only 1 round of bidding or not ?
Also, what happens when 2 players make the same bid ? I guess we go to a 2nd round of bidding, but what happen then if both players continue to make the same bid ? Does it just end when one player finally gives up or is there a limit in the number of rounds of bidding ?
-
Organizers will confirm, but it’s one turn bid, roll for side in case of equal bid
Yoshi, who hesitated to play this one as a rookie too
-
thanks.
-
Correct. If we keep doing alternating bids I’ll go insane! You get to bid once, so bid the lowest you feel you need to win. In the event of a tie, I will roll a die and inform the winner.
-
I understand we are bidding for the axis. Does that mean players want to play the axis?
What bid should I use if I don’t care which side I play?
Can you give me two example bids, explain who wins, and discuss what they do with the Bid as an example.
For example: Player A bids … Player B bids … Player … wins and spend the IPCs on … and will play as the …
-
Ex. 1
Player A bids 4 IPC worth of units.
Player B bids 3 IPC worth of units.
Player B wins and spends the IPC on 1 Japanese infantry in Kwangsi and will play as the Axis.Ex. 2
Player A bids 6 IPC worth of units.
Player B bids 8 IPC worth of units.
Player A wins and spends the IPC on 1 German submarine in SZ113 and will play as the Axis.Maybe the word “wins” is misleading, especially if you’re indifferent to which side you play as. Just because the player won the auction doesn’t mean they wanted to play Axis. It only means they were willing to play as Axis with less of a boost than their opponent.
-
Thank you, it was misleading a bit since I thought people were saying the axis never win. It seemed weird that you would bid low in order to get the axis under that premiss.
I understand the bidding, thanks again.
-
So if I prefer the allies, I would bid 1000 or something high. If I was indifferent I would avoid a zero bid as that means I will be the axis automatically….I guess indifferent would be a bid like 25.
-
If you bid 1000 IPC for the Axis you would almost certainly win, but this might backfire. What if your opponent bid 999 IPC for the Axis? You could be facing an additional 333 Infantry! (or more likely, tanks, ships, aircraft and a smattering of infantry, but you get the point.)
That is why, even if you want to be the allies, you may want to think about how much you really need to win with the Axis and bid that amount.

it doesn’t matter much to me, but why was my entry deleted?

Looks like you got typed over between posts 54 and 57, you were number 27 according to post 54. Then you disappeared in post 57.

I will consider it providential… my schedule this fall is waaaaaaaaaay too busy for a tourney. I will be content with the “for fun” games I currently have going. I rarely get past the second round anyway… Was just curious.
-
Good, does that mean our game will have a post soon?

i’m waiting on you… scramble orders.
