Axisplaya,
No problem with you killing my two Japanese transports. I actually made a three fold mistake in putting them there.
1.) I thought your bomber in the W. US could reach z6 and land in the Soviet held territory with 12 troops. That is why I moved the TTs to sz 19. Now, I look at the map again and I see it would 8 moves for your bomber to do that. So, the TTs would have been safe in sz6 from the US sbr.
2.) I completely forgot about my purchase (fighters and tac) which would have been able to scramble to protect the TTs even if your bomber could have made it.
3.) I miscounted where your fighter from the Philippines could land. I missed that Chahar and Midway were valid landing spaces.
4.) I really need to stop moving naked transports around that I want to keep. To me, it seems like I always miss stuff like this. They should always have at least something providing them cover if I want to keep them.
As for you Anzac play, don’t be too hard on yourself. I doubt that you saw two of my planes taking off from the Carolines and being able to partake in that battle due to my carrier in sz6. It seems like my most common mistakes involve plane or ship movements with air and naval bases. Combine both, and it is easy to miss. Hell, I didn’t realize that those two planes were able to make it into the battle until my Japanese turn came. I did not have that planned when I did my previous turn. In fact, I did not plan on winning the battle. If I had known I was going to do that, I would not have take the Solomons so that you would collect the extra 10 ipc in NOs for me to raid. :-D
Anyways, I think it has been my play which is clearly deficient in our game. I way, way oversold Japan on doing the Kill America First strategy which you played brilliantly against. Now, even if I do take Sydney, I still have the sensation in my stomach that Japan is going to be squished like a bug by the US because of my lack of Japanese income at this point in the game. I just hope I can make some type of contest in Europe with Germany and Italy before the US swings over there to steal some VCs from them and prevent my winning on that side of the board.
Anyways, we have a lively game going and I commend your play so far. If not for (I admit) excellent dice for me and poor dice for you, I wouldn’t even be in the same ballpark as you in this game. Hopefully I can get back to the game tonight, but I make no guarantees.
