    Yeah, it really hurt getting booted from the Pac once I spent all that time there.
    I’m a big fan of bombers, but with the combo of bombers and subs its really only an offensive threat since subs defend poorly and bombers can’t defend in naval battles.  Just couldn’t quite get to where you can to completely retreat back to Japan’s seazone and stay.  I’ll have to test it out a bit more.

    Having the Italian CAs and BB really helped you in the Pac.  A couple of times I thought I had your fleet (or at least odds to make a move) but with those 3 ships added in it put you over the top for defense.  Well played there.

    Might have been better to just go all out Germany/Italy this game with your poor G start, but again Japan can get soooo strong.  Tough to decide sometimes.   :-)


  • I believe that to get Japan, you need some ground pressure too. This means building trannies with us to take islands (even if the tranny is dead, as long as Japan cannot take it back safely, for instance because you can kill the japanese fleet if it goes at the sea zone corresponding to the island, that’s good), and also having more ground units to threat India (at least at long term) and ensure to preserve Africa.

    Otherwise, Japan makes too much money, and has mainly to defend against the us only, so ecnomics will make them win the pacific battle after some time.

    Here obviously the italian navy was very helpful to defend, but the East Indies IC too ; if I as dice by your sub defense at some time, I could have built the new boat in sz38, and still have some fleet in the pacific.

    For a KGF… I’m not a big fan, and dunno if it’s good or not (but may be the good option according to the situation). My early moves with Japan have been made to preserve Europa in case of a KGF (Burma J1 to help Europa, East Indies IC J2 - which I’m not a fan at all).

    Maybe being more agressive with Russia could have been better (?) - I mean building more tanks for instance, and perhaps a R1 bomber to take a japan tranny and then trade land territories in Europa, since the key point in Europa was Germany holding Epl (which is a great pressure for Russia with the italian opener threat). After that, the situation in Europa was not the same anymore.

    A last point : why building so many DD with UK ? 3 of them are useless I think (2 CA would be more sufficient as there were no real threat for the UK fleet, with the few money Germany was able to do).

    Anyway, taht was a close game during at least 8 rounds :)

    Yeah, I definitely should have been more aggressive with Russia.  Although I think there was a battle in Ukr or somewhere, that was really a killer for me.  I forget exactly what happened, but I seemed to reacall Ger holding out in a key battle.  I’d have to go back and look.

    I agree, I did end up with too many DDs.  Might have been better to go CAs instead of bombers as well, and just pound away at Germany.  I’m pretty sure I could have trapped the the Italian fleet better too.  I think I spread UK out too much in Afr in rds 1-2, I’d have to go back and look.  I’ve had some League games (after we started this game) where I’ve pretty much stacked Trj and held the Ita fleet in place.  Which makes the bomber buy much better, since you can nail the fleet in rd 3 with either UK or US.  Just a little out of practice when we started this game.


  • Yes there was a turn where Russia got diced in Ukraine I believe, and then I did not look if you could have prevent an Epl stack or not from Germany, but this was the case (I think you protected Caucasus after that).

    For the uk bombers… they were a good buy I think, since they forced me to defend better both Italy and France. But maybe you could have used them better than a trade in France. I was wondering how to manage them if they had been traveling to Egypt with a big stack for instance.

    Anyway, good game I believe, of course one can see that some details lost you, because you did not anticipate enough your ideas, but overall there were several good ideas. Was a nice game :). Good luck in the league ;)
