Yes, and that would be the first time since December….

If I don’t pull this one out, I’ll have to review it to see what happened.  All I can remember are all the times you got really lucky, and I remember you made a lot of good moves.  Probably a combination of the two that’s got me in this jam.  The problem with seldom being behind is I don’t get as much practice getting out of jams…  :-)
At least that fighter hit twice!

Surely there are times I’m not remembering where I got decent luck, but all I can remember is a lone infantry taking out a fighter in Manchuria, Z2 on G1 losing 2 subs and a fighter and getting nothing, losing 2 Italian infantry in TrJ and getting nothing…  Actually, now would be a good time for me to review the dice in this game and see what happened…  The way things are going in the tourney, we might be meeting in round 3, no?

OK, on G1 I also lost the sub in Z6, and got hit 4 times on the Russian front out of 8 shots, where you had put your entire 12 bid (bad combination for me).  I did take out Egypt, though.

I got a little above average defense on R1.

J1 - Z35 you got a 2.5% result in Z35, saving a transport and destroyer and I lost both fighters.
Z56 you also took out a fighter (about 1/3 chance)

UK1 - You counterattacked 2 tanks on Egypt and I got very lucky there - you lost 3 infantry and the bomber.  This attack would not have been possible except your transport survived in Z35 (5% chance of transport surviving).

G2 - Z12 bomber raid on destroyer.  I lose, hit nothing.
You hit 4 of 8 2’s in BSt.  Again, I take a beating on the one front that really matters…

R2 - Red October takes out a carrier, allowing UK to hit Z5 without loss on UK2.  Also, infamous infantry takes out a fighter in Manchuria, and doesn’t get hit in return.  7.7% chance of that happening.

J2 - Australia, I took 3 hits

US2 - ELEVEN damage on Germany, no bombers lost

G3 - EPl, Russian infantry and tank both hit.  Getting drilled on the Russian front every single turn so far.

R3 - Poland 2 tanks against 3 infantry in a gamble to get the big NO - fails.

UK3 - Poland 2 infantry remaining, cleaned up without loss.

I3 - 2 UK infantry remaining on Poland - trades hits with 2 Italian tanks.

US3 - Bomber lost to German AA fire (phew! finally a break), but surviving one hits for a nice 4…

G4 - appears, average luck

R4 - Bul and EPl defended by tanks.  3 defensive shots total - all miss.  Thats a 12.5% chance…  But you do lose a tank in TrJ to an infantry

J4 - approx average luck, but among the many 2’s on defense, I do take a hit from a destroyer, losing an important sub

I4 - Infamous fighter defends against 2 infantry and a fighter in TrJ, taking out 2 Italian infantry and surviving

G5 - I accidentally take Baltic States on a hit and run (9% chance), exposing German armor to British, forcing me to lose a fighter in EPl to block the Russians, and putting tanks out of position (possibly).  Effects of this one remain to be seen…  And the parting shot in EPl that took out a fighter… that’s right, above average defense overall in EPl…  only slightly, but that’s all it took to do real damage.

OK, that was my attempt to be unbiased in reviewing the dice events of the game so far…  Battles that went pretty much according to odds were not mentioned…  I conclude that if you were an average player, I would still be winning handily at this point.  But you (in 4 1/2 rounds) seem to be significantly better than average as your league record to date reflects.  And the dice have not been kind to me so far.  That could always change…  So yes, I see I’m in a jam because of a combination of poor luck and good skill on the part of my opponent.  No surprise…  :-)

Smarty.  Why haven’t you updated the league standings as requested awhile back by someone?

Here’s a little reminder - I said this up front before we even started the game:

You can have them at 12.  What is your placement?  I can do G1 tonight.

One of these days my tournament game for round 2 will start with Bold or Dutchman, so that will instantly become my new #1 priority and all others will be pushed down a notch.

I play daily, but won’t necessarily be able to move ours every single day.  Sometimes I can make several moves on a single game in one day.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to another fun game with a new opponent.  Here’s hoping you have a good time, too.

I have my tournament game in full swing now.  Still mopping up stubborn Bold, who is probably just trying to delay a league win.  And his moves have slowed waaay down now that he finally knows he’s getting killed (don’t most people?)  L3 with SouL is probably coming before you.  I ditched the Jenn 1940 game.  I’m playing PGMatt in L3.  That enough info for you?

Quite frankly, I’m not interested.  I’ve already concluded that you’re in good position because you haven’t done anything stupid yet, and because you’ve been quite a bit luckier than me so far, as detailed above.  I mean, come on.  Taking out a fighter with a single infantry?  I’m not saying you shouldn’t have done it, but jeez, what luck.  Surviving 2 fighters in Z35, and taking out a 3rd in zone 56 at the same time?  VERY lucky.

One game doesn’t prove anything because we’re just feeling each other out and the dice variation can have a huge effect on a single game.  Hopefully we’ll meet in round 3.  I’m just playing to have fun.  Not my fault I win more than the Yankees or Heat, and am getting a target on my back.  If you keep up the sniping little remarks, I simply won’t play you again unless we meet in a tournament.  I hesitate to even enter tournaments because you can’t pick your opponents.  I’ve met up with some A1 jerks in both tournaments I’ve played.  Ah, but the allure is just too much….  Had to try a singles.

three reasons, 1st I’ve decided to do that every two - three months. 2nd not much has changed since they were last done a few weeks ago. 3. I’m in france working from my laptop, and I don’t have the saved files with me. On a side note, Amun asked, and I don’t believe he has even played one game in the league! Specators can’t dictate terms.

this happens, it has happened to both of us and can happen quite easily again, you just didn’t manage the possibility of this happening very well.

that is ok with me, the league is set up to challenge the best players, if for whatever reason you choose to avoid players you could eventually meet them in the playoffs or forfeit.

There are unsavory people in every aspect of life my friend, in my five years on this site I have found very few. I am sorry to hear that you have encountered so many.

I shouldn’t have attacked Z35?  Interesting.  So I shouldn’t make attacks if I can’t stand to lose everything and gain nothing in the 2.5% chance that that happens?  Your thinking is strange….

You did me a favor by attacking the fighter in Manchuria with a lone infantry.  You just plain lucked out, that’s all.  You think you have better risk management?  Spoken like someone who’s been very lucky.  Hindsight’s 20/20.

I do not avoid good players.  I said I like to pick my opponents, because I like to pick people who play cleanly and are nice, friendly, and interesting.  Why did you assume I meant something to do with quality?

Yes, I’ve met up with some unpleasant people, and don’t talk to me like I’m 5 years old and don’t know that I’m going to meet up with unpleasant people.  That’s just insulting.
Here you go - take my advice and avoid these players:

U-505 (he might have died, actually.  He just disappeared unexpectedly without a trace)
DutchmanD (and to a lesser extent his little brother, Bigbadgoo)

U-505 was criticizing my strategy after G1 and he’d never played with me before.  Of course, like you, he was saying “tsk tsk” after he got great defensive dice, then saying I shouldn’t have taken the risk.  It all went downhill from there.

All 3 of those players I will never play again unless I have to, and even then I might not (just forfeit).  I play to have fun, not to take abuse from mean people.  Again, as to your offensive comment about how I will meet unpleasant people in life, I have a lot more control over face-to-face.  Online, I have absolutely no need to associate with jerks.  There are countless good people out there to play games with - why settle for less?
