@WindowWasher Good day. Japan needs the income from the DEI and need to keep India on the defensive, not expanding. I agree with Awk others here: Oz can wait. Make Japan a monster first.
I have played close to 100 1940 games and don’t think anyone has tried to take Sydney from me early on.
Try it, but I don’t think it would work against most players here.

Say U.K. 1, the U.K. declares war on Japan.
On J2, can the japs then enter the Dutch East Indes? or is this a DOW against America?

Japan may attack the Dutch territories without bringing the US into the war (or losing its trade NO, if using the Alpha rules).

Cause if Japan takes DEI UK sees this as an attack on it, which in turn brings USA in……???

I didn’t notice the wording of that NO for Japan. So if UK or ANZAC declares war on Japan first, and Japan does not invade French Indo China, Japan can still collect that 10 IPC bonus, right?
