I am thinking about purchasing AA42.
However, some reviews on German amazon told me that there are far too less pieces in this edition.
According to your experience, which pieces do you think are most likely to run out, e.g. German tanks more likely than Russian aircraft carriers.

Based on my own experiences , U.S. tanks are first to run out… even the grey rounds and the Factory are not so much…
my suggestion is: buy two pack of the game (i done it, is not so expensive this edition…) or use miniatures of another AeA game

but – buying two games just because of the plastic miniatures is kind of agonizing with my ethos… ;-) (and I do not own another A&A game till now)
If I got you right it seems to be unpredictable which kind of pieces is likely to run out first (since the variety of directions this game can take is too high).

Difficult decision now: I could purchase AAP40 for nearly 40 Euros this evening (special offer) and wait a while to purchase AAE40 afterwards. But I am bothered with the fact that global A&A needs so many players (as I don’t like attaching two or more nations to one player).
Any comments on my thoughts?
buy another kind of A&A and merge the units probably is the best solution, better if you can get it at special price :)
yes is unpredictable to know exactly what are the piceces run out first but generally there are very few miniatures for the game itself… more miniatures are necessary!
A&A42 cost only 30€… positive side is: double miniatures at lower price … if anyone have better idea … let me know :)
How’s the situation with AAE40 and AAP40? Do these editions have enough pieces?
I have not had a problem of running out of pieces for AA42. After a battle there are enough to use for the buying phase. If you do run low at set up you have the grey chips to use under the pieces. If you feel that you need more pieces then a second copy of the game would not be too much to buy. Also you will have a 2nd map to use when the first one wears out.

As long as you don’t mind using chips, you can pick up a set of those on ebay or historicalboardgaming.com. You could also just get a couple extra tanks or whatever else you might need on HBG.

Many thanks for this advice. I do hope they do not get “out of stock” and carry on delivering all these beautiful items (which are not cheap though, but that’s of no importance) for a long time.

On my games, Japanese tanks and US transports since you’ll have to split the stacks through a number of territories/SZs. German tanks are not really an issue since I try to concentrate as many of them as possible in a single territory…

Thanks Hobbes! Every experience or opinion by an A&A veteran makes it easier for me to make a list of most likely run-out pieces! :-)
I’m a big fan of a lot of minis and no chips. US trn usually run out at the end of US2.
To tell you the truth I have never run out of pieces… I’ve gotten pretty close but by the end of your turn some units usually die and are able to be cycled through. I DO run out of chips though… In most cases where I can’t just add more minis I use the country markers as substitutes.
The game does a pretty good job of anticipating what each nation will need. As long as you don’t plan to make the USSR a world naval power or the British use a whole load of ACs, you should generally be fine. (at least in my experience)

well we’re all just getting into the game, so these won’t give you any strategically feasible ideas. i don’t know if i remember quite right, BUT as japan i had one in manchuria and one in shanghai, UK had one in india, and US was wanting to build one somewhere but didn’[t have a model. now that i am counting i think either i am forgetting one or we’ve lost a model. either way, it was pretty much a shambles, the IC in manchuria ended up being a total waste of money, i don’t think i ended up ever dropping a unit in there. and i took the IC in india from britain.
that was the game where we learned that dropping IC’s all over the place doesn’t work well.
There was a strategy in classic edition that revolved around denying the other powers the use of ICs due to lack of pieces. I think it was called the von Quirine doctrine or something… Not a great strategy by any means, but a fun strategy.
wait, so the number of pieces DOES limit how many ICs can be on the board?
