By 1943 Russia had 2-5 times as many tanks as germany on every front. 2-10 times as many planes. 2-5 times as many artillery pieces, and 2-5 times as many infantry units. Remember Germany had to send 15-20 % against the allies in the west. Norway, france, Homeland Germany, Denmark, and other occupied states, while as Russia had nearly all of its forces Against Germany since Japan was NEVER going to attack russia after it had previous battles against Russia and saw it was hopeless as well as Japan had its hands full against the other Allies. This is just Russia VS. Germany. The allies (UK, Canada, and US) had 10 times as many tanks as Germany and 10 times as many aircraft. Japan was equally screwed. US built over 100 Carriers in WW2. Japan had a total in the 20’s, but never at one time due to battle losses. The US built over 1,300 warships. Japan could never have handled this. No matter what you say the Axis had about a 5% chance to win WW2. this only if Moscow would have gotten taken, but if you read military history you will see that this probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway seeing as how Russia moved its factories back into Siberal in the Ural mountains region. Germany never could have taken Russia due to Russia’s huge size as well as huge manpower advantage, industrial advantage, only one front to deal with, and the fact that their front lines were in Russia meaning tanks and airplanes could drive and fly strait into the battle off the assembly line. While as Germany’s front lines in 1942 were far from Germany’s industry. If the game was ever played to history allies would win 98 percent of the time with two equally skilled players IMO. This is why the game is made to recreate history sort of, while being playable so that both sides have an equal chance of winning.
Larry's NEW ALPHA+1 SETUP

Anybody ready to playtest it with me???

doubling the cost to repair damage markers effectively makes sbr’s heavy bombers! With the plus one, even stronger! I see a lot of aircraft being puchased to serve as interceptors. Allies will have to send aircraft to moscow, and Japan will probably have to assist germany. My initial reaction is this is too much, but I’ll wait to pass judgement. This may actually serve to represent the war more accurately, as sbr’s were more a part of WWII than what is usually the norm in a game of 2nd Ed or AAR.

Man, there are a lot of changes to get used to.
Sorry, newb question: What program uses the file you attached questioneer?

ABattlemap. You can find it as a sticky on the AA50(Anniversary Edition) thread.

Just a few questions. I have read these posts as well as those on Larry’s website.
1. Will Alpha + be published and replace the AA Global 40 rules and set up?
2. Is Alpha +1 an update to Alpha +?
3. Will you need a new map or are all the download maps just for electronic use?I am following multiple forums on this subject and I think many of us would like to see LHG nail this one soon. After playing for 20 years I am looking forward to a XMAS break with friends and the new games, but w/o the fuss of evolving rule sets.

You can copy and paste, directly from the forum into any word processor. Easy and simple.

It’s still not a definitive setup or ruleset for that seems (or at least is not one that is not going to change in like 4-5 months). It doesn’t deserve wasting time playing it. That is a work for AH testers, not the gaming community. If they don’t want to spend money on testing, they should not make us pay so much money for the game :x
Of course, Larry has not fault of this: he’s trying his best. But I refuse to play a setup and ruleset that changes each day. I’ll stick to OOB, or as much to alpha, because those are the only stable setups that we have

it sucks
italy will never conquer egypt, and germany will never conquer UK
(italy egypt, perhaps, but not before US is ready to hurt Italy quite severe) -
I tried to post the following on LH’s website but got a message that it had to be reviewed before it could be posted. I do have an account there but, obviously, I must not be a member of the privileged posting elite :-D. Consequently, maybe someone from ‘over there’ will look at this ‘over here’ and be able to provide an answer.

Greetings!
I have been following this discussion for quite sometime now and just wish to congratulate all involved for arriving at what appears to now be a well balanced game. I particularly like the fact that there are major decisions to be made by all players and those decisions carry some serious consequences. Also, the major battles are not cake walks for either participant. Our Battle Group will be playing Europe 1940 this Saturday and will be using 99% of Alpha Plus .1.
I do have one question on SBRs:
9. Strategic Bombing Raids procedure:
• Escorts fire @1, and interceptor casualties are immediately removed.
• Bombers fire @ 1 and interceptors fire @ 2. Remove bomber and interceptor casualties
• Surviving bombers are assigned a target
• The target fires its AA guns at the attacking aircraft - @1
• Surviving bombers attack their target, looking for the highest number possible. It appears that the escorts get to fire one round and then leave unharmed. Is that the case or can they remain on the battle board and be taken as casualties in lieu of the bombers?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Frontovik,
It may be more difficult for Italy to take Cairo. But I always thought it was too easy compared to history anyway. I think this is what Larry Harris is trying to achieve. I know this is not a true simulation but a game, but achieving historical accuracy provides Global A&A more flavor and makes for a better game.
On the plus side, Italy does not need to capture Egypt quite as fast. It can satisfy one of its’ national objectives by capturing Gibraltar, Southern France and Greece. It also gets a new objective by capturing Morocco and the northern territories of Africa. Thus it makes more money sooner.

@Hellmutt:

They cannot be taken as casualties instead of bombers. Interceptors are looking to shoot down bombers, not escorts. Of course, if there are more hits than there are bombers, escorts will be hit with the remainder.
-
with the numerous changes proposed by Alpha + for 1940 Global, is there a similar Alpha + setup, NO, political situation, rules for 1940 Pacific and 1940 Europe stand alone games?
-
Not yet.

Thanks……that makes sense!

Hey everyone
I haven’t been very active here since the summer (4 AP’s + soccer + swimming + band) so I haven’t been able to follow all this very closely. Do we think this is the final version, as Q suggested? Has anyone tried it extensively? Better than OOB and whatever other versions exist? Thanks in advance! -
This is very close, if not the final draft I believe.
Here’s the link explaining the Rule Changes/New NOs/Setup and such:
http://www.harrisgamedesign.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4060The map is attached below if you wanna playtest it (***remember some of the NOs you will have to do by hand as they have changed or included as brand new)
I see a U.K. BB and a fully loaded CV in sea zone 98. Can this be correct?

Yes.

Played this through today.
Not too bad, UK a bit weak in defending london still, may or may not be an issue.
The American player felt that the japanese victory conditions were way to easy to achieve, so America went 100% pacific. This almost worked in his favour, but after the fall of london, and the failure of his big attack on Japan, it was game.
Africa was back and forth, Anzac was bad-a-s-s.
NEW SCRAMBLE RULES PWN ALL OTHER VERSIONS.

Exactly. Now, a Sealion will lead to a Russian advantage in the East.
