The Germans have no destroyer present, therefore the defending air units can not hit the sub, and of course the sub can never hit planes. Think of it in terms of the combined arms rule, air units can only hit subs if they are combined with at least 1 participating destroyer, the difference with this particular combined arms is that it works while attacking and defending. In the scenario that you described, the sub would destroy the remaining transport without rolling and the defending fighters can do nothing.
Tank Question
-
Can you combine a tac. bmbr. and a mech. inf. with one tank to get the attack and blitz bonus or does each one have to have a tank with it?
-
my initial thought is yes you can but its just my gut feeling…. I’m not basing that on anything. I suppose my reasoning is that the mech. is just accompanying the tank and isnt actually combined with it in any meaningful ratio for combined arms. I may be wrong however.
-
These are two separate bonuses. They happen at different times, therefore you calculate the combos during that specific phase. So the short answer is yes, 1 tank will do.
- Tank + Mech. Inf. = Mech. Inf. Blitz (Combat move)
- Tank + Tac. Bom. = Tac. Bom attk @ 4 (combat)

@miker49:
Can you combine a tac. bmbr. and a mech. inf. with one tank to get the attack and blitz bonus or does each one have to have a tank with it?
I think you need a separate pair to get each bonus, one tank + tac bmb = hit bonus, and another tank + mech inf = blitz.

My thoughts are that 1 tank can escort the mech (blitz), and also give the tac a roll of 4.

Improved Mech inf. tech in Global
What about mech + tank techs ?
Can one Tact. bomber, Tank and mech combine together for a 4, 3, 2 rolls? or is a separate tank needed. This is a related topic.

Each unit may be paired with only one other unit in the same turn phase, but it may be paired with a different unit in another turn phase. In Miker49’s example, the tank may be paired with the mechanized infantry in the Combat Move phase, then be paired with the tactical bomber in the Conduct Combat phase. In Jeffdestroyer’s example, the tank may be paired with the mechanized infantry in the Combat Move phase, then be paired with either the mechanized infantry or tactical bomber in the Conduct Combat phase, but not both. See the Combined Arms sidebar on page 16 of the Rulebook.
