YG wanted to solve some balance issues, not just toying with 8 dices.
At least, he might get credits with tweaking subtly with balance without radical change.
IL's Axis and Allies Global 1939 and 1942 files

IL will you ever do a global size game using your new rules. You could base it on the new G40 map but just add a neew set up and rules. I would love to see a G39. Will you be making any thing like that. :? :?
-

Not clear at this time. But the AAE40 map might be reconfigured into a 1939 map depending on the final product. The of weight of this decision will be based on how accurate the OOB map is.
-

IL can you give me a list of parts and stuff I will need to play this. I will have G40 games and AA42. I am mostly confused on the new pieces colours.
-

These items are listed on the first page. You really only need 1 each AAE40 and AAP40 and some units for fortifications ( table tactics infantry with gun cut off)

Early draught of my take on the Global map. Includes list of neutral alignments on vital dates.
-

The names are based on 1939-1941 actual maps in 99% of the cases. These are cross confirmed with various other maps produced in USA and UK in this period.
-

Maps often lag behind official name changes, while names such as “Volgagrad” and “Belarus” by definition did not exist until long after the war. Of course there’s nothing wrong with using names such as “Mesopotamia”, but the government of the country at the time called it “Iraq” so that’s what I prefer to go along with.

Maps often lag behind official name changes, while names such as “Volgograd” and “Belarus” by definition did not exist until long after the war. Of course there’s nothing wrong with using names such as “Mesopotamia”, but the government of the country at the time called it “Iraq” so that’s what I prefer to go along with. But these are the maps that were created from various sources of the day. My maps always use the vernacular of the time they are representing. If the Generals who planned their battles made maps that used these titles, those are the ones i want to use and in view of any information to the contrary the names i used are more official in terms of this outlook. I don’t go by maps printed after the war ended, when various nations tried to throw off the names that were established by the colonial powers. They have no credibility to a map thats said to contain the information that war planners would have used in these times. And i don’t have Belarus on my map. I have no idea why you made that comment since it does not apply in this case.

@Imperious: Well my map can be printed from any printer on 8.5 x 11 sheets and taped together. That cant cost more than $20 in ink ILs 1939 setup.

Something is really strange on your print. Your printer is somehow assigning the information on the pictures of the battle scenes incorrectly. It seems to ‘square’ these pics rather than blend them into the oceans seamlessly. The high quality printout of that map does not do this at all. But more important what is your take on the set up? OK IL, thanks for the updated setup. I found quite a few errors and changed them. I have one question. Your setup lists the German navy in the Black Sea. Did you intend for these to be placed in the Baltic Sea instead? The ships will not be able to leave the Black Sea unless Germany takes Turkey. Thanks for your help.

Sea Zone 16: 1 DDalso fortifications are now different: Base cost of 4 IPC and this includes one border. The exceptions to this are the Maginot Line and Siegfried line ( which only pertain to the border they are placed in) All other forts are now placed inside the territory and effect attacks from all areas into the same. The base cost is 4 IPC and 2 IPC for each border that is adjacent. the first border is free and built into the base cost. So if you got a small island the cost is 4 IPC If you build one in an area that is next to 5 different borders including sea zones…cost is 4 IPC +2 +2 +2 +2= 12 IPC… remember the first is always free. thats the changes. enjoy the game and please play it and post how it goes. Our first game is scheduled for Monday the 20th. I will adjust the setup according to your list. Yes I will post the results. It may take a while as we have been having a session once a week and leave the game set up in my shop game room. OK, we started our first game of ILs 1939 version today. We had to discuss a lot new rules and because of that we only got to finish two rounds. As you can see in the photo, my friend who was playing the AXIS tried to attack France by going through the low countries. I think he made a terrible mistake by putting most his armor into Holland with very little infantry support. So after France counterattacked and then the U.K. moving in, he lost all that armor and is now very weak in Germany. Italy activated the pro-axis Spain by moving Italian units into Spain on his non-combat. Then on ITALY#2 he moved all those new axis units into southern France. I did the same thing on U.S.#2 by moving land units into pro-allied Brazil. We are not sure if we did the activation of these two nations the right way or not. See the next post for the Pacific action.

On the Pacific side of our 1939 game, Japan moved all its fleet south and then on Japan#2 took India and Borneo. Now without oil the U.K. on its 2nd move rolled one die for the oil loss. It was four IPCs. We were not sure if we were supposed to do the oil loss roll then or do it on the next U.K. turn. As you can see in the photo I moved the U.S. fleet towards Japan just to give them something to worry about. Because of this Japanese action the U.S. is now at war with all the axis. We moved the U.S.income up two turns so that it is now 25IPCs. Not sure yet if its supposed to be 25 or 30 IPCs. I was hoping that IL could answer some of these questions.
