It was 1990, I was 18 years old… I moved to the big city of Toronto and my new friends were gamers who played Risk all the time. I quickly got bored of it and was looking for an alternative game I could introduce to them and I saw on the store shelf Axis & Allies from Milton Bradley “a game of high adventure” and “decide the fate of the world in just a few short hours” (lol). Unfortunately we were all pretty hammered by the end of the night and the only thing I remember of my first game was punching out all the plastic pieces from the plastic stencil racks and all the roundels from the cardboard sheets. it was an instant hit with the whole group and I played it with them religiously for up to 2 years until I moved back home to Peterborough. I brought my game with me and it wasn’t long before I hooked some old high school friends to it, and over the next 8 years I played Classic edition even more than I did before. After that in 2000, I moved back to Toronto where I discovered Spring 1942, then A&A Anniversary edition and finally Global 1940… ironically, I met someone from that first group from the early 90’s almost 20 years later, we accidentally bumped into each other online and we have been playing 1 on 1 1940 Global games every month for the past 5 years.
Problem with A&A computer game
-
I’m getting back into A&A after taking a few years off, and I’ve had fun with the computer game (despite the bugs). The biggest problem I’m having though is my complete inability to save a game. I’ve tried countless combinations of long and short filenames, but I always get a message stating “Unable to save to file x”, x being the filename I selected.
I’ve tried re-installing it without any luck. Has anyone run into this problem?
As if that wasn’t enough, when I try to install the 1.33 patch, I get a message stating that I need to have A&A installed on my computer for the patch to work. Moving the patch into my A&A directory hasn’t helped. Is there any other way I can get the patch to detect my A&A directory manually?
Thanks for the help, gang! The strategies on this site have helped me a lot……well, at least for the first 3 rounds, which is the farthest I’ve been able to get through, thanks to this damn bug. :-?

i havent had trouble saving  but depending on what side im playing i put either axis or allies and then a number to differenciate games so my filenames look like axis3

Saving a game is very hard to do. It is probably better just to use the game’s built in auto-save function then to do it manually

Save it manually? LOL Yes, that’d be a bit tedious.
Unfortunately, I’m still stuck with the same problem, and re-installing the game hasn’t helped any. Does the A&A folder have a seperate sub-folder for saved games?
