I’m curious how popular our fire is to people around the country/world. It is estimated to excede 500,000 acres and the President himself is coming to take a look. We have lost over 300 homes and last I checked 5 or 6 comercial buisnesses.

This fire has got me thinking… what is there to stop some one with an agenda against the US from driving out in to remote areas in dry parts of the country like my state and poping a flare in the bushes?

well, I own 2 peices of property in northern AZ, one is about 10 miles away and the other is about 20 miles from this fire, they’re most likely safe but when you consider that the fire is 50 miles wide from east to west, it can make you nervous.

I can’t imagine being one of the 30,000 people that have already been evacuated, sitting in a schoolgym somewhere wondering if they still have a place to live.

Man, and to think there is no real solution to this. Bush called the area a disaster area as well.

  • Well here in good 'ol California, we get quite a bit of your Arizona forestfire. And us Southern Californians know a thing or two about forest fires (seeing as we have them all the time during the dry season), so our hearts are out to ya. Don’t worry, I think we’re sending some reinforcements to help you guys out (be sure to return the favor next time ).

Have any idea what started this? Two of our worst forest fires in South California within the last decade were due to ignorance (ie the reason why 1 out of every 5 infantrymen get killed). One from someone discarding a burnt cigarette out of his car window and the other with “teenagers” firing toy rockets out into a wooded area. (Not to mention all the other times where kids played with matches…)

They haven’y said what started the original fire, but the second fire which has joined the first to make it half again as large, was started by some one who was lost trying to signal one of the news planes. They have said that the first fire was not natural.

So you could say ignorance was a factor.

  • Well I hope they catch whoever started it! He’s gonna pay

You know how much the California Fire Department takes out of our paycheck each year to make up for the cost of fighting forest fires? It’s not pretty.
(And some of them was the FD’s fault! :o )

The lost traveler was aperently a woman. I heard that they have her in custody for her own protection.

  • Ha, I wonder why?

  • I am very concerned. Over the past few years, these fires have grown out of control. Its a serious envirmental issue. Our Government could kill two birds with one stone by putting more money into alternative energy. They could not only decrease our dependency upon foreign oil, but solve long standing envirmental issues.

  • Wait, how does alternative energy factor into the equation? Almost all forestfires are due to nature, human misconduct, and lack of common sense.

  • I think its a bigger problem. Call it Global Warming, the Greenhouse effect, whatever, the earth is too hot. I know in New Jersey, 6 or 7 years ago, we’d get 30 inches of snow every winter. We got something pathetic like 7 inches this year, and thats been the high since 1996. We’ve never seen Forest Fires like this before. Worldwide, the weather is screwy.

  • That’s not the worst of it! Today a large forest fire broke out in Cajon Pass (Southern California) trapping cars on a nearby highway and even a train! Sorry Dzert, but it looks like we’re having problems of our own. :(

Well, It looks Like they will be able to contain it at 410,000 acres.

I agree things seem to be dryer than they have in the past, however I’m also pretty sure humans didn’t cause the end of the last Ice age either. The planet has cycles and speculating that we are the cause of global temperature changes is in my opinion a little big headed. :)

in 1990 we in Arizona hit record hight temperatures on quite a few days including one day where it hit 122 in Phoenix. In the last few years it has cooled off. We better watch out there might be another Ice age on the way. ;)

Well, it figures a BIA contract Fire fighter intetionaly started the largest wild fire in our states history. 725 square miles that is more than twice the size of New York City for you easterners.

  • Excuse me for asking, but what’s a BIA contract firefighter?
And this was Intentional!? :o By golly, there is gonna be hell to pay if this is true

  • yeah, apparently some firefighter looking for some more work. He apologised, and now is in custody.
    Bad Boy!

  • Double Ouch! I wonder what his tab is gonna come out to. It sure aint gonna be pretty :o

  • LOL, did you hear about the latest guy they caught? He was a firefighter who started a forest-fire so that he could have work in the summer! :P

  • Hahaha  Capitalist hard at work
