Global 1940, No. 21 Game Report:

Players:

Early 1940 to Late 1942:
Germany:
Mass Production of U-Boat units to rule the Atlantic and the Med.
Gradually building up 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Waffen-SS Armies as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd Panzer Armies - of which 75 % were fighting on the Eastern Front.

Luftwaffe was highly active & effective - but suffered heavy casualties - with no reinforcements to come.

Soviet Union:
The Soviet Strategic Plan included an offensive operation in Africa.
1st Soviet Army Corps captured Iraq in Late 1941 - and pushed on towards Italian controlled territories in Eastern & Northern Africa - with reinforcements coming in by Air Transport units.

Italy attacked the Soviet Union in Early 1941 - followed up by a massive German invasion in Late 1941.

Japan:
A successful and massive Japanese offensive captured all of China by Late 1941 - eliminating all Chinese resistance.

In Early 1942 & Late 1942 Japan successfuly reorganized the Army, Airforce and Navy - and prepared for an attack in both the Pacific and against India.

United States:
The US Strategic Plan was to gradually put an increasing pressure on the Axis Powers - in both the Pacific and European theatres.

By Late 1942, all original US territories and islands were under US control - and US troopes had landed in Northern Africa.

United Kingdom:
All moneys islands in the Pacific were under UK control - this was important due to the heavy IPC losses inflicted by German U-Boat convoy disruptions.

Early 1943 to Early 1944:
The economic situation was stabil for both the Axis and the Allies.

But the ecomy was gradually getting advantageous to the Allies, since the Soviets managed to halt the German invasion on the Eastern Front - and the Allies were able to defend the islands in the Pacific.

India was captures by Japan in Early 1944 - but the cost was enormous for Japan.

The Soviets launched a massive offensive on the Eastern Front - pushing back the Germans.
In Africa, the Soviets skillfully captures most Italian controlled territories - bring up the Soviet IPC level on a massive scale.

Tanks, Tanks and more Tanks were mass produced in Russia - and the Germans were forced to retreat all over the Eastern Front.

Late 1944:
Germany prepared a defensive line on the Eastern Front from Novgorod in the North to Bessarabia in the South.

The Soviets launched an offensive into Belarus and Archangel - with the purpose to encircle the German units in Novgorod and threaten the entire German front.
The backbone of the Soviet forces were the 1st Soviet Army Group - supported heavily by 18 independant Tank units.

Soviet Tank and Infantry units attacked deep into Chinese territories - forcing the Japanese units to drive North to counter the new threat.

Allied troops heavily outnumbered the Japanese in the Pacific - with more than 3 times the number of Infantry and Fighter units defending all Pacific islands.

US and UK troops continously landed in Western Europe - and the 1st US Tank Army pushed throug the Middle East towards India.

North Africa was dominated by Soviet, French, US, UK and ANZAC units.

An Axis defeat was inevitable - and the Axis surrendered in Late 1944.

@barnee Good Morning. I am chiming in very late on this but confirmed that essentially the Allies lost due to the emotional health of the US Navy leadership in the Pacific and the UK Army/Air Force leadership in India being irreparably damaged. So we had a new HRE victory condition kick in which was Axis Psychological Victory because the Allied Generals and Admirals on one side of the board were sitting in their HQ rooms sucking their thumbs. Unclear if victory due to outstanding psyops is an official way to win but that’s what happened. Congratulations to Barnee for being the first to win HRE by virtue of outstanding tactical prowess which destroyed all of the Allied Strategic Plans in a way that demoralized them beyond repair 👍

Global 1940, Game Report:

Global 1940 two-player game conducted with Triple A which ended yesterday as follows"

Germany captured all French territories and was able to reduce the UK navy in the Atlantic to one destroyer, one transport, and one cruiser at the close of Early 1940. UK had a very strong counterpunch which reduced the Regia Marina to just its SZ 95 fleet in addition to destroying the Italian Army in Ethiopia and sinking the German battleship in the North Atlantic. In Asia, Japan’s Strategic Plan called for an initial focus on turning China completely yellow which did happen by the end of Fall 1941.
The very effective UK1 turn caused Germany to scrap its initial Strategic Planning and instead conduct Luftwaffe air raids in the Mediterranean, launch the Bismarck from Kiel and the Graf Zeppelin from Marseilles all in Late 1940 in order to replenish the surface assets of the Kriegsmarine and try to stave off utter early destruction of its Italian neighbor.
In the Pacific, Japan opened hostilities with the Western Allies in Fall 1941 with successful attacks on Philippines, Hong Kong, and FIC.
Meanwhile, the Soviet Union decided to re-write history and instead conducted a surprise attack on Germany in Fall 1941. The Soviet Union would remain strong all game as the Nazis never were able to push into Soviet territory past E. Poland for the entire game.
Japan captured all DEI in Fall 1942 and that extra boost to their economy would contribute to them having a strong position in Asia and the Pacific for the rest of the game although the vital Allied locations of India, Queensland, Midway/Wake/Hawaii remained in Allied hands for its entirety.
If there was a turning point in the game, it may have been the year 1943 in the Mediterranean. In the Fall of 1942, the USA made their first strong Atlantic moves with the USN moving into SZ 91 in force and capturing Morocco as well. The Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe however were able to destroy that USN Main Fleet in Spring 1943. Germany had sustained heavy losses in that battle so it took over the Italian government in Spring 1944 which allowed them to use all Axis forces to recapture Morocco that had a strong combined US/UK contingent of land and air forces and boost their income substantially.
After that, Germany focused on rebuilding the Luftwaffe and landing a large force in Syria for a planned conquest of the Middle East. However, the Allies responded in strength and the Axis were never able to advance past Syria. The war dragged on for a few years afterwards at close to a stalemate. The Axis had firm control of the Mediterranean and Japan maintained a strong position on land in Asia as well as on the high seas in the South Pacific. Meanwhile the Soviet Union remained in a strong position and the Allies never relinquished Egypt, India or the Middle East besides Syria. In addition, Japan was never strong enough to start pushing into the US Pacific territories other than Philippines and Guam.
To break the stalemate, Germany in the Spring of 1947 relocated the entire Luftwaffe to Western Germany which by that time included four jet fighters and both Heavy Bombers, withdrew forces from Syria and invested all IPC resources in transport production at Kiel. The UK was caught unprepared and a successful Sea Lion attack ended the game in the Fall of 1947.

In response to our Game 11 with Trout. I will add some shots and a few comments.

We didn’t use Type XXI U-boats, otherwise, all options were on.
Trout played a strong game and even though the SSR was strong, they couldn’t really do much offensively.

The Naval loss at GIB in 91 and then Morroco, where I missed on the TakeOver, really slowed up Uncle Sam in the European Theatre.

And once again, Tommy didn’t see SeaLion coming and was conquered. This was a Late Game SL, so a much more impressive victory.

Congratulations to Trout on a well earned Victory !

Early 1940 - Early 1941

Germany
would invest heavily in the Kriegsmarine the first year and a half of the War. They would have Fleets in 110 as well as 93 in the Med. They would also purchase a fair amount of LMs.

A close fought battle in Late 1940 would see Italy take GIB, allowing the Fleets to combine in 92. Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht Units would reinforce GIB.

Several U-boats would be in the S Atlantic headed towards Convoy Zones.

The Soviet Union
starts with max LM buys and 2 Engnrs to transport them. Heavy LM builds would continue through Early 1941, along with Paratroopers.
1st and 2nd Corps form and a TG would deploy in Early 41.

A lightly defended Scandanavia has the Red Army deploying a significant Force in Karelia and Novgorod led by 1st Corps.

Japan
would go with a large Paratrooper buy in Early 1940. By Early 41, China is pushed back to their Northwestern Provinces and both the Yamato and Musashi have been launched. They have 2 Fleets, one off Caroline and the other in 6 SZ.

United States
The Americans would blowup The PHI Harbor and concentrate on building their Navy. Both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets would be reinforced.

China
By the end of Early 1941, they have control of 4 Provinces and are concentrated in Tsinghai.

United Kingdom
Britain would sink the Italians in 96 and 97. Italy would decline to scramble it’s Air.

In Late 1940 the RN would continue their attacks on the Regia Marina, although some Italian Ships have escaped to 93 to join the German forces there. A Fctry would be built in Egypt.

Early 1941 and they have withdrawn from the Med and lost GIB. The Atlantic Fleet is stationed off of Nova Scotia. U-boats continue to Convoy their Home Waters.

Italy
By Early 1941 they have rebuilt the Harbor in GIB and made some gains in N Africa. They sink the French DD to get the Med Bonus.

ANZAC
The first year of the War sees them build a couple Air Trprts and some Land Units. I n Early 41 they upgrade the Fctry and begin to build for all Branches of their Armed Forces.

France
Nothing of significance to report.

Late 1941 - Late 1942

Germany
Naval builds would begin to slow, although U-boats would continue to be produced, as the Wehrmacht would begin to receive the bulk of German resources.
Adolph would be hesitant to attack the Soviets in Late 41, however his Evil counterpart in the Soviet Union would have no qualms and kick things off on the E Front in Late 41.

Romania would fall and a vacated Finland would see Soviet 1st Corps and it’s support units move there in force. Engnrs would mine the Norwegian Border.
The Wehrmacht would finally kick off and hit Balt STs in strength in Early 42. The Kriegsmarine would move to 109 and conduct landings against Eire and Scotland.

By Late 42, almost all resources are going to the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS. They would take Scotland back and AG Center would move into E POL. The main event would take place in Norway.

It would succeed. U-boats are now convoying the S Atlantic.

Soviet Union
While things went well aginst the Germans in Late 1941, the same could not be said for 2nd Corps attack on Iraq. It would result in mutual destruction and not be captured until Early 42 with a Paratrooper from Caucasus.

Conscription would also take place in Early 42 and 3 UK Ftrs sent to Karelia would convert via LL. They would take Norway and concentrate the bulk of the Red Army in Belarus. By Late 42 the Belarus Force would move to Bryansk to stay out of range of AG Center and the Belarus and Novgorod Frontiers would be heavily mined against Balt STs and E POL.

In order to support the British Indian Army’s move into Yunnan, Stalin would declare war On JPN in Late 1942 and strike into Western China.

The Siberian Army would move to Amur to threaten Manchuko.

Japan
Late 41 and Tojo convinces his counterparts that it is time to strike the Western Allies now. Combat explodes all over the Pacific and the IJA continues to hit China.
The main push is against Wake Island and the American Fleet in HI is now under direct threat.

The USN would withdraw to the W Coast and HI would fall. DD blockers prevent any counterattack. The Chinese stack in Sikang is destroyed and China is now under Japanese control.
A smug Tojo is pleased with their success and ignores reports of rampant atrocities being committed by the IJA.

In Late 1942, Yamamoto, realizing he can’t hold HI against the Huge Fleet the vengeance crazed Americans have assembled, orders the destruction of the Air and Naval Bases and a withdrawal to 6 SZ.
They ignore the Russian advances in NW China and strike the Indian Army in Yunnan. With the help of Bmbr buys over the previous year they are successful.

Although they inflicted hard blows against the British and Americans, they were unable to address the Soviet threat. ANZC is also quietly building up.

Continued 5-5-26

USA
As previously mentioned, the US withdraws from 26 to 10 in Late 1941. Early 1942 and the JPN blockers protecting HI are sunk. The Pacific Fleet moves to 12 in force and new construction deploys to 10.

Late 1942 and HI is liberated and the Atlantic Fleet has joined the Canadians in 106 with new construction launching in 101.

China
As stated earlier, they were obliterated in Early 42 and some Western Provinces liberated in Late 42 by the USSR.

United Kingdom
Late 1941 sees minor combat in East Africa and Skirmishers advancing in SE Asia.
Early 1942 the French Forces in England are absorbed into the RAF and British Army. ASW Units begin to engage U-boats in the S Atlantic.
Late 42 the back and forth in Scotland continues. A small Yunnan counterattack fails. They suffer 10 Convoy Damage.

Italy
Late 41 and Air, Ground and Paratroopers liberate Romania.

By Late 42 they are unable to retain the N Africa Objective and go with a large Mech Inf buy of 8.

ANZAC
In Late 41 the two Inf in Egypt defeat a single Italian Inf in Jordan. 3 Ftrs attack an Elite in NG. In a devastating defeat, all 3 Ftrs are shot down and the Elite survives negating a crucial Objective.
Reinforcements are flown to DNG and in Early 42 they would attack NG again. While successful, The Elite would kill 2 additional land units.

The Air Force is being slowly rebuilt, along with LMs to protect against possible JPN invasion after the earlier defeat of their Air Force in NG.

France
They have 1 Inf in Egypt.
