Seeking a better understanding of the bid numbers

  • @AndrewAAGamer

Thanks, I’ll be sure to look up those games once there’s a good way to look up by game number, so I can see what you tried and how it all worked out. I remain surprised that the effect is so profound, it doesn’t seem like it should shift the theater so much compared to other methods; and if just the russians being there for a turn or two is enough to really change the theater, I’m surprised there isn’t a stronger effect from other bids that put more in the theater in general. I must be underestimating how fast it affects the Japan collapse and Japan’s sensitivity or some details about how it causes the theater to evolve.

The sites search feature seems to specifically not look in the league subforum, so I can’t use it to search for the specific games in question.

Have you been using the yunan stack against others? or do you wholly avoid it on both sides?

  • It’s not that hard to find games, skimming through the pages. If you ask a player if they know about when the game ended, then you can find it quite easily since they are sorted by last post date

  • Even easier - ask the player to load up the game in triplea, where it shows the game ID. Then you go straight there, now that you know how to do that

  • One other question I’m curious about that relates to this: victory conditions; what would the fair bid be if you just play a straight conquest victory without victory cities? Clearly it would help the allies to some extent, but how much is hard to tell.

  • @zlefin

Very difficult to say without play-test data, as it’s such an integral part of the game.

I’d say it would likely make the game extremely long, and possibly unattractive to play, if it went on and on with a world conquest requirement…

  • @Booper

well, world conquest wouldn’t change the duration THAT much, since the allies official requirement is already pretty much that. It already just plays until the axis win or concede they have no hope of winning and will inevitably be ground down.

  • I’ve been doing some self play, and my preliminary estimate is that eliminating victory cities lets allies get away with about 20 less bid. That’s still a fairly rough estimate, but it does enable some very different allied strategies, it also lets them not have to force certain defenses as much as they otherwise need to, so they cna focus on income and positional advantage.

  • Does the bid system allow you place complex’s or is the bid strictly combat units sea/land?

Yes, per the League Bidding Rules as below.

While allowed, my 2 cents is it’s not advised. The bid is best used for immediate round 1 attacks or defensive purposes.

  • @Booper Thanks, yes I was looking over some league games to get an idea.

  • @zlefin
    I know you from TripleA.

You also know I play more G40 than most.

IMHO eliminating victory cities condition makes the game only matter on one side of the Map. Usually the Euro side.

This is probably obvious to you and everyone here, but…

As far as bids go…depends on your opponent. If they are excellent at Germans make them play Allies. Very few are good at both sides of the map. Players that are good with both…always make them play allies or make sure you get sizable bids as allies.
There is a player active now who is dominating as Axis. I figured out he can’t play Allies at all. I bid 30-32 as allies and if he bids anything at all…I make him play Allies. I know get 30plus verse him and he is yet to win. I Yunnan stack him and dominate the Jap side.

Know thyself…but also know your opponent.
