I am sure this is somewhere in this forum buried, but I am curious, when you do a turn, how does the other player select his/her casualties?

Use common sense and choose them FOR your opponent.

When it’s not ridiculously clear… ask your opponent to post their OOL (Order of Loss)

Sometimes this can be a bit tricky… and time consuming.  But it’s how we do it.

That said… if there is a battle you are worried about OOL… post your comments for your opponent to follow.
