Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

  • @The-Captain Hi Captain. Got a few additional Naval Mines questions as this HR unit continues to befuddle me more than any other.

    1. Do the rules about carrier hits before battleship hits apply to NM’s?? I would think not as they don’t have any brains to focus hits towards certain units. They just blow up as somebody hits them. But sometimes my assumptions are wrong. I have a game now where I will be moving a large naval force into an SZ with multiple naval mines so wanting to know if battleships can take damage first or not for NM hits.

    2. Same scenario - large naval force attacking SZ with multiple naval mines. That naval force includes Escorts.
      a, So do they sweep before or after the general naval combat?? There is a single defending Escort which laid the NM’s in the SZ being attacked. I am not clear on anything in this scenario except that the sweeping occurs in Combat Movement and my Escorts cannot participate in the naval battle with the defending Escort.

    b. If the idea is to be consistent with LM rules, then I believe the process is:
    i. Escorts sweep
    ii. Next, Naval Force crosses into the SZ and the NM’s not cleared by Escorts roll for hits
    iii. After hits applied, the naval combat takes place which in this case is naval task force against one defending Escort.

    What is the answer for #1 and are my assumptions about how the sweeping works in #2 correct?? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi Trout,

    Mines are swept before Combat begins.

    Each Aircraft Carrier unit must always take a Damage Hit before each Battleship unit.
    For game play reasons this game mechanism is irreversible.

  • @The-Captain Thanks. Got it for carrier hits first. But not clear for my other question. So in my scenario is this correct??

    First, Escorts sweep and remove mines which escorts successfully cleared
    Second, Naval Force crosses into the SZ and the NM’s not cleared by Escorts roll for hits
    Third, after hits applied, the naval combat takes place which in this case is naval task force against one defending Escort.

    @Trout

    Hi Trout,

    1. All Naval units must move at the same time during Combat Movement
    2. Escort units sweep for enemy Naval Mines
    3. Any Naval Mines that “survived” may now defend - casualties and detonated Naval Mines are removed immediately
    4. The Combat phase begins

    Does this answer your question ?

  • @The-Captain Yes, it does - thanks. I think the carrier blowing up first rule makes them overpowered but looks like you understood that because it’s not included in the Tournament Rules. Maybe it’s just me but all of the rules where carriers die first make it all the more reason to question why battleships should ever be built - except for the Super Heavies.

    @Trout

    The CVs and BBs alternate hits. So unless you need them for a big battle the CVs don’t go in on the attack. and if they do, you still get full movement for your Air. On defense only the 1 move for Air.

    Anyway having a couple empty CVs in a big Fleet just to soak hits isn’t a bad idea. 2 HPs so same as a Escort or Sub cost wise.

  • @barnee Actually I just remembered that the new Naval Commander rule does boost battleships. So that will make it worthwhile to have one or two with the Commander rules. The alternate hits is in my opinion one of the reasons to not buy battleships and instead buy empty carriers which just seems kind of stupid. I think it’s realistic that in a navy battle, the dive bombers and submarines would focus on the carriers but naval mines not so much.

    We suggest that players should be familiar with the G40 HRE Tournament Rules.

    In 2026 we expect to launch a G40 HRE Tournament on TripleA.

    We are working on the details now - and we should be able to bring more information soon.

    I disagree. BBs are badass 4 hitters. They Bombard too. I still rarely buy them but they’re nice to have imo :) The hit soak is only 3 bucks to repair.

    My Naval buys are usually CVs and support Ships, Subs, Trprts.

    @The-Captain

    It seems I’ve asked this before but can a existing original Fctry go underground and be updated to Hvy Industry the same turn ?

    I thought they could but now I’m not sure. New player was asking.

    Thanks

  • 2026 25 24 23 22 21

    @barnee

    Yes - this can occur in the same turn in the Purchase & Repair Units phase.

    Remember:
    Only the original owner of the Industrial Complex can upgrade to Heavy Industry Production.

    @The-Captain

    Right On
    I thought that was the case but couldn’t remember :)

  • @SGT-Pitbull

    Hi Sgt Pitbull - this is awesome

  • Question about the Kamikaze rules:

    In TripleA we get a little red kamikaze plane each turn and I get that but it seems to have no real effect unless we can use it to target a specific ship.

    What am I missing? How should we use this thing?

    Thanks

  • 25 24 23 22 21 20 19 18

    @JohnnyCat

    Yea this thread different than the triplea one. Triplea is here

    https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/36998/global-1940-and-1943-expansion-for-use-with-triplea

    I replied to you at the other site.

    But yea, unless there’s a damaged Capital Ship to attack, it doesn’t seem worth it to me.

  • @barnee I also suggest that kamikaze planes get to ignore scrambles. So if I catch a sole transport, my kamikaze should be able to target it without a “dog fight” hahaha.

    The Atomic Bomb Expansion is now added to the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion.

    Note:
    The Atomic Bomb Expansion is designed for a longer game - and should be used in conjunction with the Total Victory Expansion.

    We advice players to study and get familiar with the Atomic Bomb rules before we release the Total Victory Expansion.

    We expect to release the Total Victory Expansion no later than 21st April 2026.

    @The-Captain

    Hi Captain

    Am adding the SP AA unit. I see it is available at Game start but the SPA not until Early 42. Was curious the reasoning on that.

    Thanks

  • 2026 25 24 23 22 21

    @barnee

    During the early stages of World War II most Panzer formations had their own self-propelled FLAK detachment.

    At the same time towed artillery was the most common artillery support.

    Later in the War - as most battles required higher maneuverability - the need for self-propelled artillery increased.

    These factors are represented in the G40 HRE.

    @The-Captain

    Italy has 6 NMs in 98 defending against 81. Germany has taken over Italy.

    An LCV moves from Syria to Alexandria. Do the NMs roll a 1 at it ?

    Thanks
