  • this makes me wonder again how much the axis advantage in victory conditions affects the games overall balance; that the axis can win with less than a full victory, whereas the allies basically need what amounts to a total military victory.

    I don’t think it really factors in. TBH, I’ve never actually seen the Axis win by sacrificing half the board. Have heard of it once in a game two other folks were playing, but it’s always been a loss in my games. The Axis clock is very tight and unforgiving.

    even without a sacrifice, it changes the pressure dynamic, because the allies have to spread enough to prevent a one board win, as opposed to being able to full tilt crush one side and let the other grow then turn around with an income advantage to kill the other.

    Nope, you got it correct. Usually the Allies push really fast right behind Japan with the pacific fleet and the Axis only have a turn or two to consolidate. I feel like you’ve given me a lot more time to get my bearings than I expected. The bomber buy turn also set you back a turn in the Atlantic. That build typically only works on people who are unfamiliar with executing a Sea Lion.
