@Stucifer Be gentle, dear sir. OOB deserves the love shown to a matron of the family. It was the most crowd influenced game of the franchise. And the crowd pushed it in that direction. Some in the crowd that we play with. I’ve done an analysis of 1st vs 2nd edition. They, the crowd here, and the designer striped the Allies of air bases and resources to make it even more imbalanced. This happened on harris game design. The alpha 1,2,and eventually 3.
However, let’s keep in mind that There are 3500 ipcs worth of units on the board t1. 531 pieces. This doesn’t count the neutrals and activated units. So more. And to think that an addition of less than 60 ipcs makes it imbalanced in the other direction. This adjusted set up is 15 units. I’m guessing the allies take every game.
What’s crazy to me is some of these mods say it’s imbalanced and then add easy or default revenue streams to the Axis and exposed and vulnerable revenue streams to the Allies. And nobody touches technology. A new map for ptv is cool. Love the accessibility of the islands from multiple sea zones. But the way to course correct is almost always like flying a plane. Make careful adjustments and test the effect. OR just call it a house rule game and adjust for historical flavor or game play/balance.

I will be surprised if Allies win all the games. Shocked, even.
I would wager on Gamerman and Booper in their match against Daaras and FranceNeedsMorePower. And I think we’re in for a rough time against mikawagunichi and Oysteilo, neither of them are slouches here!
And yes, I love the game for what it is, but I think the game was developed with a different focus.
Some of the A&A games are quite well balanced (Anniversary 1942 setup without National Objectives, and 1942 2nd Edition), while others are wildly unbalanced – 1940 Global and 1914. Classic was also heavily Allies-favored, without the Russia rule for round one.
I’m fine with that, I enjoy these games a lot. As a kid I would tinker with the pieces on the Classic map and make up different scenarios for a “WW3” style setup. The flexibility of the game mechanics being commutable to many different versions is a testament to the excellence of its design foundation. I’m more in the tinker & improve camp myself, I have spent countless hours making alternative setups, such as a 1942 setup for PtV and a 1942 setup for YoungGrasshopper’s Tournament edition.
