Ive been second guessing since I wrote it but since I said it and it’s been a while so I think I should stick with it. The logic was just that without destroyers my air can’t hit your subs so should hit more of your air and surface ships.

Definitely you would have had an option of retreating. But I guess you can’t retreat only a portion of your force. If you could withdraw just surface fleet and air, your subs could have dealt with the rest of my fleet.
And I was lucky with that last roll, but I still wonder if I made the right choice with the destroyers. It was a gamble and a bit impulsive, and I wanted to see how it played out. I think it worked in that you have 5 subs left that would other wise have been casualties before your air which might have changed the final outcome, but then you got some free hits with them too.

@farmboy Ok. I assumed no scramble when the US bombed Greece as it was 5 ftrs + sb vs 3 ftrs.
Here, scramble is a loser, but I’ve run battle a few times and loses for Allies have been larger than anticipated when you scramble (sometimes…not guarantee.)
