Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I really messed up on those British and French bids.
Thanks for the advice regarding the other bid purchases.
@SuperbattleshipYamato You really should not be scrambling the fighters any way. This may seem dumb but could you take out the 95 fleet instead of the 97?
@SuperbattleshipYamato I see now. Even if the axis take the fleet down Germany’s air force is well basically gone by now.
@SuperbattleshipYamato said in France's role in Global 1940 SE:
It’s useful if the British player decided to scramble against Germany hitting sea zones 110 and 111 and the Allies lost both of those battles. In such a situation fighters wouldn’t be available for Gibastion.
You’re broadly right that Gibastion without 110 and 111 scrambles as a whole is probably smarter.
Ahh, that makes sense. Assuming the Axis decide not to try and blow up that fleet the British can get away to SZ91 next Turn.
@AndrewAAGamer @SuperbattleshipYamato This needs to be shared with others.
I looked into it, it’s not really good.
What the British can bring*:
1 cruiser from Gibraltar
1 fighter, 1 tactical bomber
1 strategic bomber
Axis:
3 fighters
1 submarine
1 destroyer
1 cruiser
W’re looking at 30% odds here.
*Hypothetically, it’s possible for Germany to declare war on the Soviet Union on its first turn, the Red Air Force to do research and get long-range aircraft, then use the Moscow aircraft to destroy the Italian fleet in sea zone 96 and land in Malta, thus allowing the units in sea zone 98 to attack 95 (which would give the Britsh a huge chanec of victory). This chain of events is near-impossible though.

I am not understanding the purpose of going to SZ93. Is it to try and save the French fleet?
My assumption would be that the Italians are taking out the French ships on their turn – it’s a simple matter of turn order; if you want to protect the French, the British have to do something before the Italians have a go.
It might be the case that the current meta that all the kool kids play doesn’t have the Italians doing that.
I’m just looking for alternatives, because seemingly a) backing the fleet behind the Suez is a non-starter, and; b) Taranto feels like a coin-flip (if you have any amount of German planes able to scramble, I feel like you’re basically screwed.)
Using the typical Gibastion strategy the English fleet would have 3 additional fighters protecting it in SZ92.
So wait, are we talking about putting an airfield in Gibraltar? Of all the things the UK could/should be spending money on, that sure was not anywhere on my list, fwiw.
@The-Janus Now if you go to sea zone 93, would the French Ships escape then on the British turn the rest of the fleet takes off?

Yes. In the standard Gibastion move the UK buys an airfield for Gibraltar.

I’m generally assuming the Italians would still attack, just that they might take more losses.
Like if I’m the UK and I’m going to lose my entire navy either by doing this move or by doing the Taranto attack…? My preference would be to do whatever saves more of my planes. I’m not the biggest fan of the idea of landing the bomber in Malta, and letting that get blow’d up, on top of everything else.
@The-Janus I tried testing it but Germany failed to take France’s capital, lol, so I’m trying again.
@AndrewAAGamer Never heard of that buy. Does not seem efficient as well. I really like the idea of teaming up with the French ships. It works well.
@SuperbattleshipYamato they can get more:
Cruiser, fighter from gibraltar and tac bomb from egypt to land on carrier. Fighter from malta can attack and return to malta. The strat bomb can get there as well. You have a good chance to win it. I wouldn´t send the cruiser bc without that the italian sub can not participate but it is still an uphill battle.
@FranceNeedsMorePower you can get 8 units there with the UK and French. Italy can attack also with 8. So it´s a losing move.
“you can get 8 units there with the UK and French. Italy can attack also with 8. So it´s a losing move.”
Oh wow Italy can attack with 8 I wonder how far that will get them. The chances are the fleet will get sunk but will take a lot down with it. Plus you preserve your planes in the med. It really is a good idea. Now I would take out British ships before the French incase you survive because the French ships could escape from the possible German attack. And if there is a bomber left over from London it could counter attack with another unit. So it really is a better move than the other two options. Also, usually the French ships will die maybe take a sub out with them with the combined forces they can take out more.
@FranceNeedsMorePower no, italy can take those loses and retreat. Germany can then finish them of in one blow. I think it is interesting to retreat through the suez. I will make a film about my UK1 once i get back from holiday next week sunday.
@Cornwallis Yes but then the German air force is gone now. It takes a lot of money to buy another one. Sure hit it with your already damaged air force from the scrambles and the boats and throw them away even more. I would like to see that video send me the video I think you should talk about the French related British pieces as well. Well this include the pacific side? Good luck, have you ever seen my France video?
@FranceNeedsMorePower i have done that before as well as gibastion and in both cases the luftwaffe mobbed up the remainders of the UK fleet with minimal losses while the italian transports roam free.
Yes i have seen it and you are right, the French have an added value.
This is a wild idea i want to try:
would you do a quick summary of the video
