TripleA version 2.7.14934 - Good luck and have fun!
League Global 1940 2nd edition non-ranked Team Tournament
-
Teams must at least 2 members. If a member disappears or drops out, another must be chosen to replace.
This tournament is for fun (and lots of it) and will not go into league records/history.
I hope that players will get to know other league players, and that working together you will learn new techniques, strategies, ways of looking at things.Team play can be very frustrating, but remember it is for fun.
Beware taking huge risks on G1, it would be a bummer for 4 players to have their game end quickly, although an agreed re-set is fine. Again, this tournament is for fun and not as serious as regular league games. -
Probably one of the several limitations of a hot-seat game is it’s never your turn, so no one’s waiting on you. Another, of course, is the lack of ownership of the results, but I thought that would make it less stressful and more fun. Walking into interesting scenarios, making a move, and walking out.
Perhaps what several of us would enjoy more is a normal team game, you know, you have a power or two and a mate(s) control the others and you work together.
Just brainstorming.
I don’t want to dilute the league players across more modes of gameplay, so I’m not creating a new team game mode with its own boards.
Just throwing a line in the pond (of the community).
Sometimes it seems a “shame” or a “pity” that we don’t play team game online because… it’s Axis and Allies! but there are reasons for that. 2v2 or maybe 2v3 or possibly 3v3 are probably most viable, in general. One huge allure is working alongside another league player (especially one you’ve played against before!), working together, learning together, possibly zooming/video conferencing.
-
How about a small team tourney or round robin. So even though it won’t affect league standings, the games would “mean sthg” in this context.
-
Glad for the response -
I know the concept of round robin, but what exactly do you have in mind?
A team tourney where of course 2+ players are required, would work great. A good way to get to know someone else, too.
Just having a bare minimum 2v2 and a 2 round tourney means 8 players needed. If we get 9 or 10 interested, no problem slip them in on the Allied side
-
Perhaps we could try Global '42 as a team game round robin, using tournament rules? Adapted to forum play, this would basically just be a turn limit.
@mikawagunichi and I are planning to play it this fall at an event and it is also the version of Global that gets played at the GenCon tournament. The meta and strategies for the time-limited, board play tournament games is significantly different from forum play, so may or may not be a good fit for what you’re hoping to achieve.
-
I will stand back and hope for others to comment, thanks @Stucifer !!!
-
@gamerman01 I think something like what’s being discussed would probably get a lot more interest than the hot seat game. I’m not against the hot seat idea, but another reason I think some of us otherwise highly active players haven’t taken a turn is out of a feeling of “not wanting to mess it up” for those who have played the side we’d take a turn for. Of course that entire line of thinking is probably wrong given the overall lack of ownership, but it is what it is.
I’d love to play some 2v2 though. Definitely would be a great way to get to know other league players better.
-
Good deal,
I’ll post in the general discussion thread because looks like just 13 people have posted on this one -
-
@Booper is in and he is my team mate
There is a 2v2 sheet in the ELO rankings spreadsheet
We have crockett36, oysteilo, and mikawagunichi
So we have already have 5 and need a minimum of 8.
If we actually get to 16 then great, but we won’t wait around too long. 2v2 on forum will surely be slower than 1v1 so we probably don’t even want 3 deep.

@Stucifer is in
We need 2 more and will wait a few days for more. Extras might be added to allied teams.
Allies are going to need bigger bids than 1v1, obviously
Free agents at this time are
Stucifer
Mikawa
Crockett36
OysteiloYou may or may not want to wait until a better prospect comes along!
-
I have picked @mikawagunichi’s brain quite a bit and played live with him. @crockett36 fancy playing this team round with me?
-
I have no team mate and anyone would be fun to play with I think. I am away from july 25th to august 11th. So that is a little unfortunate
-
You are still in, @oysteilo , will take a bit to organize anyway, and you are worth the wait
-
@gamerman01 For teammate selection, assume my ELO is 200-300 points lower for OOB than PTV.
-
Really cool that you’re playing in this even though you haven’t played OOB in league
Don’t worry, this one is for fun and disparities in teammate experience and success is not much of an issue. Just do whatever your partner tells you !! LOL
Everyone is free to choose up a team mate and if no one picks you, assignments will be made, right before we start.
Again! Exciting that you want in!
-
@gamerman01 I’ve been practicing on the 1942 setup for an over the board tourney so at least getting familiar with the map again, if not the setup.
-
I don’t even miss the BM modifications… :O
-
Would be great to get at least another couple players, so we could have 4 teams.
-
Yeah we’re not starting with less than 8. We’ll get them
