• Re: Rules Q&A for North Africa

As Germans launching and offensive from kassrine to alligers.
If kassrine is at the stacking limit. Am i allowed to launch german bombers from Tunisia if there only avaiable landing is in kassrine*current at stacking limit), anticipating the offensive will have casualties in kassrine making room for the bombers to land in kassrine?

No, they must have a safe landing zone available to them to be able to engage in combat.

As you can see from the rules, North Africa Page 32, you must demonstrate during the COMBAT MOVE PHASE that the conditions exist currently so you would have a safe landing zone during the NON COMBAT PHASE or you are not allowed to bring that aircraft into combat.

Therefore, unless there is already a proven safe landing zone available before any combat occurs then the move would be denied.

The rules don’t say to demonstrate that there will be a safe landing zone in the future, there has to be a safe landing zone now before the combat occurs.

  • @AndrewAAGamer what if we leave one unit out from battle to move out.of kassrine pass durning non combat to make room for the bomber to land durning non combat phase…the rule says to demonstrate in the non combat move phase?

  • @emmettdd said in Stacking limits question:

the rule says to demonstrate in the non combat move phase?

No, the rules say that IN the combat move phase you must be able to demonstrate a safe landing spot that you will use during the non-combat move phase but it has to already be available now; not in the future.

What they mean is when the aircraft moves during the combat move phase is there a safe landing spot available to the unit now. They don’t mean what it would look like after combat or after you move units during the non-combat move phase.

An important aspect to remember is North Africa is an Axis and Allies game and the basic rules are the same as any other Axis and Allies game. New rules or different rules are explained but the writers assumed players understood how aircraft movement worked. I know this for a fact as I was a play tester and had this exact conversation with the Renegade project manager.

  • @AndrewAAGamer thank for clearing that up. Appreciate you. North Africa is my first Axis and Allies game. :)

  • @emmettdd @AndrewAAGamer There’s actually a ruling that was made on BoardGameGeek regarding this question. Per that ruling, it is legal to plan to land in a territory already at its stacking limit if there’s a chance that a landing space will be made available through combat. However, if that space does not become available, the air unit(s) will have no place to land and will be destroyed.

Apparently this ruling has not yet made into the posted rules or FAQ. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks @Krieghund! I was unaware that Matt had decided to go a different route on this rule. He is THE MAN regarding North Africa so what he says is golden.

  • @Krieghund thank you everyone for their time. We appreciate the clarity…good to know it is a legal move we made on our last game.
