Here is a quicker version of Anniversary using the pacific theater and making it a two-player game. This is based off of the 1942 scenario. For balance, the UK is converted to USA territories and units. Place a USA marker in each friendly UK territory and change UK units to USA units. USA and Japan earn bonus income if they own territories and islands listed below.

Haven’t played 42 hardly at all. His other mods, 41 and 39, especially 41, seem very balanced. I think if you haven’t played it much, I’d just roll with no bid for starters.

I m also going with you can only spend the money in the Pacific side with no ground buys going towards India or China. Figs cost 11 icps so it would take either side 2-3 turns just to buy a plane if it went against China or India.
Same for Med. Place a token on top of money showing NO bonus money only goes P or Med. Just use a token with the letter P or M on it.

I agree this should be addressed. On the custom map we use all islands are worth at least 1 IPC, which helps somewhat, but like you said, it’s only financial.

I like the supply concept you have. Instead of tampering with all the unit stats, perhaps you could say that no surface attacks can be launched unless a friendly land zone is located in an adjacent sea zone. (double that distance with a naval base)

I finally found a different HR intended to fix Subs vs planes:

IMO, subs are too weak if they can’t be used as defending fodder (I know some other user agree as I read posts complaining about this). To illustrate, suppose USA approaches Japan with an invasion force and Japan strikes first:

Japan (attacker):
8 ftr
2 bmb

USA (defender):
2 CV
4 ftr
8 sub
2 dd
4 trn

The rules are fairly clear that in this battle the USA can’t choose to take subs as losses, which means Japan has a ~90% chance of victory (killing everything except for the subs). I’m contemplating a house rule that states:

Defending subs can be hit by any air/sea units regardless of whether or not an attacking DD is present. However, if no enemy DD is present, the subs may submerge before any rolling. If subs attack and no defending DD is present, then defending air units can’t hit subs (even when they’re on the surface).

(I believe that the last two sentences are how it already works, but I included them with the house rule for clarity)

This way subs’ current capabilities are preserved, but they can now be used as defending fodder. Does that seem reasonable to the more experienced players here or does it throw off the game mechanics? (I’ve only played AA50 a couple times)

I really like limiting the Hawaii IC to two units max build. I can understand the US getting an IC on Hawaii, but I always thought it was ludicrous that it had unlimited build.
The India getting an extra infantry each turn can make it pretty hard for Japan to take India. That’s an interesting rule that those free infantry can not be moved. So basically, those are strictly for defense of India. That might be an interesting rule to incorporate for all capitals, and even in other games as well. Ever play a game of A&A and mistakenly left your captial undefended? Now you would always at least have some infantry there.
I am wondering about Rule #6b. Why would you not let Japan build more than 3 subs per turn? I take it that applys ONLY to building new subs, right? Japan is allowed to have more than three subs on the board, right?

AA42 neutral rules:

Procedure: roll ONE D6 for each IPC= consult chart below. Until you conquer the nation it is an ally of your enemy but they don’t collect IPC. Only direct occupation and conquest awards IPC to the player. Each turn these activated nations can build new units according to its own capacity ( so if its a 1 IPC area, it takes 3 turns to build one infantry) and place one unit of any type per turn.

1= 1 infantry
2= 1 infantry,1 artillery
3= 2 infantry,1 artillery
4= 2 infantry,1 artillery, 1 mech
5= 3 infantry,1 artillery, 1 mech, 1 tank
6= 3 infantry,1 artillery, 1 tank, 1 fighter, 1 destroyer

Note: Sahara, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Himalayan Territory cannot be entered by any units.
