I went when I was really young. I think I mainly visited resorts and amusement parks.

Some yes, like tuna, but I had eel once and that ruined it for me. It just slid its way down because it was so slimy. First time ever though I took the sushi and smothered it in the generous helping of green avocado paste that accompanied it - which turned out to be wasabi. Stupid tourist that I was gave people a laugh. My favorite place was small restaurant in Japan where you sit at a bar and there is a conveyor belt carting plates of sushi in front of you. You can try lots of different kinds just picking up a plate off the belt.

Big fan myself. My tastes are rather pedestrian though. Spicy salmon roll, often some octopus nigiri.

NO. Fish have parasites and diseases that are dealt with by cooking. Civilized people have been cooking their food for thousands of years. Why? Because they didn’t want to die from tapeworms and salmonella. I did try eating that garbage on one occasion and it was disgusting. I would rather eat bugs.
EDIT: I like Chinese food though. The chicken balls and ribs and eggrolls are good.

Sushi can be cooked or raw, The only thing you may worry about is Mercury in the Fish.
Sushi Grade Fish prepared in the traditional manner will not contain bacteria.
Plus they got Vegetarian Sushi. Japanese food is much more healthy than say Thai or Chinese.

At the restaurant I went to they had one dish that was literally just a raw shrimp sitting on a cracker (and it was not a cheap restaurant). Then there was the chunk of raw salmon also on a cracker. Oooh and the chunk of tuna fish on a cracker. Is that supposed to be a joke? I mean who would seriously want to eat that? A cat maybe. You can cover up the rotten fish flavor with all the wasabi in the world, it’s still a rip off IMHO.
-
One time someone handed me a container of wasabi, and told me it was Japanese Ice Cream.
One time was enough, for me to NEVER want anything to do with Wasabi again.
That said, when I order sushi, I order as many different styles/blends as possible, so as to maximize the kill to food ratio, and increase my Gargantuan underwater death footprint.

I had Red Snapper last year, best fish i ever tasted.
-
Even though it is not sushi: Outback Salmon filet - the very best tasting fish served anywhere.

I love sushi, and I love how clean and light the meal feels. I’d eat it every day if I could. I try to be adventurous when I eat it and try something new. Don’t really care for unagi (eel), but I’ll eat it here or there. Tried uni (sea urchin) last time and it wasn’t too appetizing but it tasted just like the ocean. That’s a good and bad taste, FYI. I usually go for Hamachi (yellow fin tuna), spider rolls (soft shell crab), any spicy roll, and the crazy American rolls. I will often drink sake warm or cold or a Japanese beer like Sapporo or Asahi with my sushi but it’s not required. Found my favorite sushi place in town that also has traditional Japanese dishes so it’s pretty bomb.

You wouldn’t eat real Chinese…you’re eating American-Chinese. It’s like what Taco Bell is to Mexican food.
And like IL said, you’re entirely mistaken if you think sushi is all raw fish.

I live in the Netherlands, where fresh raw herring is considered a delicacy. They kill the worms by freezing the fish. The 2012 catch is just in and from what I’ve heard it’s absolutely top quality.

Many of the newer asian buffets now serve sushi of ever improving quality.
I typically view it as high amounts of protien where the chef already cut away the bones.
There was a Todai (specific sushi buffet) that did close in the last 5 years.
They were always pricy to begin with. The quality was very high a decade ago when it opened, but on subsequent annual trips, I noticed a downward quality trend of items offered.
At buffets offering sushi that do not appear so clean, I tend to look for cooked items like the shrimp and unagi.
The best and cleanest buffets offer icura (salmon eggs).
The ethnic markets sell it for $30/ lb. -
I’m too American perhaps; like a good Californian Roll.

So what you are saying is you like cat and dog? Got it!

Wait a minute. You mean to tell me they use cats and dogs to make chinese food? Oh my God! First this raw fish stuff and now they want us to eat our pets? It’s like CANNIBALISM

There were no humans used in the making of last night’s Lo Mein Mr. Vance.

We’re here for you. There’s no need to indulge on anything delicious… then again… :) Some miso, sushi, and green tea makes up a great dinner. Where I live, they have this great place, but it’s too much for me.

LOL! Thanks, man. And, you’re right about the green tea with sushi. I prefer it over beer. There are tons of places near me to get sushi because of where I live. I don’t do the expensive places either. I know this sounds so pleb, but I prefer the Kroger sushi over the expensive places. Short of going to Japan or China, it taste the same to me. Now, there is a little variety. But, I get my variety when I go to the buffet. The Kroger stuff ain’t cheap either, btw.
Oh, I imagine! Yeah, we have an “upscale” store down here called “Central Market” and their sushi packs are more expensive than the restaurant. It’s the strange turn food prices has taken nowadays.
Haha, buffet, I’ve actually had the best sushi in one of those places, no joke. Maybe it was just the chef who made it there, I don’t know. Now, if you can find me a 100% sushi buffet, we will need an intervention…

Yea no Sushi “Buffets”. That’s not real sushi. This is uber quality seafood and expect at least $50 per for a la carte ordering. Add more for Sake ( i don’t drink alcohol).
If your eating something under $20, that’s not by most accounts real Sushi.
Japanese food after Indian food is the best tasting food invented IMO.
-
Indian-food wise? I mean, there is some good Indian food. Not my favorite. Have you tried Thai? Best Asian IMHO… Especially their curry dishes.
