We are at the final stages of play testing the Ground Attack & Tank Buster air unit.

This air unit is purchasable only by Germany, the Soviet Union and the United States.

More detailed information will follow no later than 20th April 2025.

These rules have been delayed due to the massive amount of G40 HRE games we currently play as part of the training for the 6th Northern European Axis & Allies Wiking-Con held in Denmark.

We expect to release the rules in Late 2025.

I know there are other forums on this but I wanted to collect the best ideas here. What minor powers work best (balancing wise and being fun), preferably those without having to buy lots of extra pieces/ones that can use pieces from other games. But if one requires purchasing pieces and is really good feel free to add. Also not G40 specific but that tends to be the most common for minor powers. Thanks!

So how much you need to repair before you can use it ? 4 - 6 ? Down to 3 ?

If increasing to 8 or 10, I rather keep 3 to make unoperational.
Thinking about the OOB rules, probably make it 3 and more to be unoperational was due to get Bases fix with only 4 IPCs or less, Minor IC cost 4 or less to be able to produce 1 unit at least.
Both have similar requirements.

I’m not sure I understand the concept of a Pearl Harbor attack involving no Japanese ships, since the whole operation revolved around the use of a Japanese carrier strike force to bring the attacking aircraft into range of Pearl Harbor. Japanese aircraft in 1941 didn’t have the range to fly all the way to Hawaii from Japan and all the way back again. The closest that Japan ever came to doing anything like that were one or two very small bombing raids carried out against Hawaii by (if I recall correctly) a couple of flying boats from Kwajalein Atoll. These flying boats – Emilys, I think – were big and slow and clumsy, could hardly have done much damage, and would have had to fly unescorted since no Japanese fighters had the equivalent range.

As for the Doolittle Raid, it was carried out by B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, not by tactical bombers. The rule section about these normally land-based planes being carrier-launched is correct (they used special training and techniques to launch from a flight deck), but the rule would have to be more precise than just saying that “The US player can launch 2 TB from 1 carrier” because it doesn’t restrict the location of the carrier and it doesn’t specify that the planes have to fly a one-way mission. In the actual raid, Hornet had to get close enough for the planes to launch, hit their targets and continue to China. The planes didn’t have the range to return to the carriers, and in any case could never have made a carrier landing; the techniques they used to launch from a carrier couldn’t work in reverse to land on one.

Also, the pearl harbor attack included Jaanese subs. It wasn’t a pure air attack.

I have something new in mind. A game with OOB.1-tt-movement. A Major power is only allowed to attack once in a turn.

First Three powers have mandatory attacks: Austria -> Serbia. Russia -> GE. GE-> Belgium.

A power collapses if 3 of its Home-tts were captured by the enemy. (Russia 4 tts) (or if the capital is lost) Game is over if two CPs or three Allies are finished.

OE, Italy and other minor powers enter war as they did historical. It is not allowed to attack them before their entry.

Neutrals are impassable.

Capturing tts doesnt pimp your income. Minor powers if not captured generate their own units (they can spend their own IPCs every turn they survive)

Not sure about the initial Setup-armys:

Maybe:

Belgium 6/2
Portugal 1 (it will after entering war consequently produce one Inf per turn surely without getting captured)
Bulgaria 8/2
Romainia 7/2
Serbia 6/2
Montenegro 3/1
Arabia 2
Greece 3/1

India can build max. 16 IPcs per turn.

Rest you can see on the map.

USW means a 12-sided dice if one Sub manages to be in a zone when US/GB collect income.

US-initial Setup has 6 more Inf.

6 more Infs for Russia.
Austria gives 3 Infs and 2 Art to GE.

GB gets one more transport in India.

I think destroyers should be able to bombard @ 2. In fact, I think all surface warships should have that ability.
The only thing that worries me is if destroyers can bombard @ 2 plus their ASW abilities and cheap price, that will start a new wave of people saying “Cruisers aren’t worth buying”.

Well FWIW I don’t mind adding some firepower especially if everyone can do it. I’m working with using the bunkers from HBG to have major and minor bunker complexes that soak hits even on islands. It really just depends on how far you want to diverge from OOB rules and what other units are going to come in to play.

A simple rule could be that all surface warships no matter their type boost +1 on a 1:1 ratio with land units for one round, and tweak it to your liking from there.Â

Interesting extrapolation.
It could be used by cruiser and BB in addition to their basic bombardment.
We can even consider more boosting power toward BB.

Unfortunately leaving it for a week isn’t an option. We could take pictures and reset it, but the players tend to change based on who is available.

I like the grand battle idea, we may give that a whirl.

ok so i reivised it a bit.

#1 is now called - Deck Guns: Your Transports now defend at 1. If a sea-zone that is under attack is left with only defending transports, all transports are destroyed instantly.

2 - ( OK so i got a couple questions. if a cruiser engaged in sea combat during an amphibious assault, can it also bombard? <- i dont think so. Also, if it bombarded would it be able to deploy infantry during the assault? <- i dont think so either. thats the problem with having the cruiser carry the infantry. I want the cruisers to carry infantry because more people will buy them but i think that ability would go unused unless they just want the cruiser to ignore combat and just drop 1 infantry.) if i am wrong and they can drop while bombarding then i would love to have cruisers be able to carry inf. rather than destroyers. what would this be called if it just allowed cruisers to carry an infantry.

3 - ( basically an offshore bombardment ) but i can see what you mean by it being too complicated and possible overpowered…. what would replace this? how about: Operational Major Industrial Complexes located on your capital have no deployment limit?

4 - i like this. this would be a thrid research chart so you can get more Mech. infantry researches and then they would be a great unit!

5 - what about triple the amount? quadruple? or take the roll you got, and triple/quadruple it?

6 - yes. Example: planes move into a territory, that territory contains 5 AA guns, a major IC, an airbase and a naval base. Before interception the AA guns fire on all planes, then interception ( air combat ) then the surviving bombers are assigned to the bases and the bases fire. i just found it wierd that AA guns do noting against a SBR. if i dont use this reseasrch chart then i might make this my house rule. i dont know how big of an effect it would have… especially if i had radar lol.
