Simon.Tressel, who just joined Triplea forum, contacted me and said he started playing NML against the computer but would like to join our team game. I said we welcome new players, but we may have reached the end of our long run of games due to waning interest on the game being unbalanced.
Adding a newbie might help us to carry on. NML has been criticized for being too defensive, while at the same time, games 15 and 16 have shown that an all-out early G effort against Paris is very doable. In this game, G got tech and F didn’t. But Brits showed that they could make an extraordinary early effort to reinforce Paris, greater than in prior games.
With different players playing different sides and with a few minor tweaks to the game rules, I think we can give new life to the game. Adding new players will help.
Does anybody know this new player? If we decide to play a game 17, shall we invite him to join us?

@FMErwinRommel Always happy to welcome new players to the group. Plus I don’t have a waning interest for the game and am keen to keep playing.
We just need to help F to withstand the G5 attack and so make the game more interesting. This is easy to do and we have done it before, but for some reason we keep revisiting all the options that don’t actually address the issue directly. F needs any one of industry, propaganda or bunkers. I suggest industry, which means F has to pay for any additional defense of Paris.
As I keep saying, when I played F with Industry, I was able to survive beyond G5, but it really was touch and go. Which is as it should be. We just did it the once I think. So the test was a success. But you didn’t like it. Why don’t you play F with Industry before making up your mind?
We keep loading other changes on top of that which just cause a complicated debate, meaning we get nowhere.

@Private-Panic If france feels free to repeatedly buy colonials for Algier and Tobruk and plane for Marssaille, then I see no need to adjust anything in their favor… when Germany shows his hand by going all out towards Paris starting G1, then every franc MUST be spent on defense of Paris.

I agree with Elrood, that if France were to go all out from F1 with max HGs and trenches and heavy spending on land defense tech, and UK built transports and figs in England early on like Witt did this game, the battle for Paris would be close.
The thing is, G, F and UK rarely go all out for Paris attack or defense. And how G spends on Western Front makes a big difference. That’s why I’d like to de-emphasize Paris, by not letting G build fast movers in Berlin on G1 and G2, and by giving G a bid bonus to only be used in the Pacific. Then F and UK can also spend more elsewhere. The game is more fun when the other powers have a prominent role in deciding the winning side.
But, if we want to continue without adjusting the rules, I’d be willing to play France without any bid bonus or else play Austria or Turkey.

Has France not been maximising defense of Paris then? I don’t monitor what my allies get up to.
