I added a tab to the tournament results board for guidelines and rules.
It’s just the ruleset @The_Good_Captain set out for us for the maximum enjoyment of us all,
And a little guidance on choosing sides if players both want the same side.If @kwaspek104 doesn’t show, for The_Good_Captain, I figure that’s not much of a problem, The_Good_Captain gets a “bye” or plays ericwool or dawgoneit if they want in at some point
The “bye” would travel down to the losers bracket where someone there will get the automatic win.
Perhaps the first one to lose in bracket one may be given the bye, so that they do not begin crying -
And I don’t think we have anything else to wait on, other than The_Good_Captain either plays Kwas, ericwool, dawgoneit, or takes the bye if none of them show.
You may contact your assigned opponent and begin!
@VictoryFirst I am not in a hurry because this came up quickly and I’m embroiled in 2 other hot contests, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start soon, contact me when ready!

Would you mind posting the link to the results board?

This is a link -
Classic Tournament 2025 -
Thanks so much for including me among the invitations, fellas! I’ll have to decline this time. I love classic and will get back to it sometime in the future, but having grade school kids puts me on the sidelines now. I plan to follow the posts to see how the tournament shakes out. Best of luck to all!
-
@gamerman01 I requested access to the tournament-related google docs, but while I wait, can you (or someone else in this thread) tell me who I am playing against?
-
And…
I notice there is only ONE pinned thread in the Tournament section, and it is many years old!
It is called “Tournament history”This means that I can record the results there for posterity
(because I can post to it)I just finished setting up double elimination brackets properly, so you can look again. It’s exciting just to look at it.
If you lose your 2 games and get knocked out, don’t despair! Play each other in the league section, and you will have a running ELO and can participate in more playoffs/tournaments in the future. Nothing says we have to wait until 1/1/26.
There is no signup or commitment in A&A.org league. Come and go, play a game, have your result recorded and a running rating. The rating is great so that you have a good indication how tough your prospective competition would be.

Granted -
Apologies, so I figured out I need to give access to all with a link, and I just found how to do that…
Now you will see that… you are paired with… @Martin !!!
Good luck with that 😉
-
If you don’t understand the double elimination bracket…
Just go out there and WIN!!
Lose twice, you’re out,I couldn’t think of how to label it much better, so if you really want to understand it more and if you don’t understand it, I’ll be happy to tell you but I didn’t want to confuse everyone with my attempt to explain it up front
-
I didn’t know the double elimination bracket and like it. Do we post the game threads to “play boardgames” or to the “league forum”?
-
So we are playing with Industrial Complexes?
@gamerman01 Same, ready when you are!
One more general question, are there also some rules that will take care of AFKs? The same system that League uses? (I believe 4 bumps, each bump after 4 days of silence).
-
And perhaps an idea to create a new thread for this 2025 tournament where all the relevant information and links are placed? That thread could also function as a game result thread, where the results of all games are placed so that you exactly know when a game finishes.
-
@VictoryFirst It was already made. https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/41503/2025-classic-tournament/. Wins/Losses go there. This thread has the link to the bracket buried in it, which is here for reference:
-
Thank you, I got a notification but I thought it was for this thread 😅
-
@VictoryFirst I would strongly favor playing with new complexes.
-
Yes, we are playing with complexes - I’ll take this year to demonstrate why those are next on the chopping block ;)
-
I guess if there can be no additional factories, naval units can then also be produced in unfriendly sea zones. Otherwise Japan could be doomed.

We are playing with factories or Industrial complexes. There are four of them left after the initial setup and three AA guns that can be built by anyone. Industrial complexes are in play.
We will play with the out of box, optional rule of allowing naval units to be deployed in enemy occupied sea zones. This is an out of box optional rule and since this is intuitive for most players coming from other versions (and because I have never seen it be a factor in any game of Classic) I’ll just assert here and now that we will be using this optional rule as well and so newly purchased naval units can be deployed in enemy occupied sea zones.
-
Great, I will add these to the “guidelines” tab of the bracket spreadsheet,
I recall there is some other rule in conjunction with the placing new sea units rule…
Something about submarine withdraw? Please enlighten
-
The VictoryFirst/Gamerman game has started!
The rule coupled with the rule that allows building into sea zones with enemy ships is that submarines may submerge straight down, right?
As I recall, if submarines can submerge and pop back up, then if you don’t kill the subs in the first round you then can’t build into the zone, and if it’s the only zone you have then you lose all boat purchases and no refunds. In other words, that can never happen in this tournament because you can build ships in hostile zones, and so by the same token submarines don’t have to move to another zone? I’d better go get my rulebook from the basement…
Thanks!!
